Luckily I had the procedure written down in a text file, although that meant I had to remember how the textfile was named. :P

Extinct threads are those I've completely read and to which nothing has been added since. However, if I come across a thread, that has not been closed, and has new content (for me), it is not extinct. :scholar:

EDIT my LAME B.itch refused to turn an MP3 into a wave, so I had to scour the net, and plough through many pages, and manuals, to find one that did, leaving me with little time left to post.. >:(

Which brings me to yet another b.itch. I go to the site of ATI, to get a new driver for my videocard (Radeon9800XT). I choose the correct type, download a file, and I look at the version info:
QuoteDisplay driver files for the ATI Radeon 8500, 9700, Mobility M9 and the
FireGL 8700/8800, E1, Z1/X1 graphics accelerators.
Where'd the 9800 go? :stabs:
PS: The post in the Lost&found-thread can also be considered a semi-b.itch post.

THe company head is also a control freak b.itch. :furious: Because I was already late, as in the last moment, I decided to mail an answer to a parliamentary question directly to the one that was gathering all the different answers and then synthesizing a global answer from those). No five minutes after I had sent the mail (and ofcourse, had put the company head in cc) my direct superior (the head of the financial department) got a phone from the company head that such an answer should've passed by him first, before it got sent out. And a few moments later, a company-wide mail was sent stating that same thing. Guess who initiated the whole thing. :-\
Also, this forum is becoming quite a b.itch, with all of its outages. :-X

YaST is currently b.itching like hell. Yesterday some Linux-processes were caught in a loop so I couldn't shut down in any other way but cut the power to the pc itself. And today even KDE is b.itching by restarting every few minutes so I can't even properly do anything besides re-start FF and try to post before everything feeezes again. :-X :furious:

Due to the b.itch in my previous post, I decided to re-install, because there's nothing worse than a freezing OS. Or so I thought... :-\ I fetch the SuSe 9.1 Personal CD I've used so many times to re-install in the past (with success), and start a new installation (I can't update with that), without formatting ofcourse (just like before). However, this time not everything goes according to plan, the install program (yes, YaST) freezes near the end, at about 98%. :-X :furious: I tried the CD in both my CD/RW-drive and my DVD/Reader-drive, but to no avail. Everything stalls near the end. There's also the option to install SuSe Linux via FTP, so I thought: let's try that. First I try to repair my Linux-partition, but that freezes when looking up the packages. So, I thought, let's try Updating my partition. The first try there were a few dependancy issues, but they could be resolves by downgrading to a previous version, So I checked that. However, that froze too at a certain package (some Berkeley Database, probably something to do with my Seti@home/BOINC). So I unchecked that update. Next try, another file froze, so I unchecked that too. In the end, I unchecked everything that hadn't already been installed during my previous update, except the downgrading-packages. D**n! Even those two freeze my system! :furious: Okay, in that case: risk the inconsistencies. No more packages to download, YaST moves straight on to the Finishing (install-)touch, and that's the one that creates the init-file. 63%... and then, yet another freeze. Where does the grudge this pc now has against (SuSe) Linux (and in particular YaST) come from? It worked so fine all these months, and now, suddenly, freezing everywhere.
Just to make matters complete: Thursday I got my VPN client on my work-laptop. I tried everyting at home (that was before I tried re-installing (not the repairing or upgrading, that's the following evening/night) Linux that same night BTW)): VPN connects, I can ping, I can send and receive e-mail, but there's one difference between now and the previous time I had a VPN-client, the bookkeeping-program can't connect itself. The b.itch here is the fact that I only needed the VPN to work in the bookkeeping program during the Christmas holiday. So, Friday before noon, when the person who installed that came by in our office to fix something elese and asked how my VPN worked, I told him, even though I'd already sent him a detailed mail the previous evening, after exhaustive testing. I had the afternoon off, but since I only come to work late, my work-shift ended at 13:15. At 11:30-ish, two ICT-men came by to solve my problem. They fiddled around a bit, changed some settings, and I'll probably test again on Saturday. Due to all of everything I'm b.itching about, I've not been able to come onto the forum, and the chat I''m going to let pass too. :-X
All I want is a clean Linux-install, you stupid :furious: pc!
Note: This post has been made with XP/FireFox. I might hate this OS, but at least it doesn't freeze my pc. :-\
At least I have one consolation: it can hardly get any worse than it already is. :'(

It's not my fault Murphy seems to feel rather at home with me. With Murphy being here, ofcourse he can't be anywhere elese. I wouldn't like anyone being scared of me though, I'm a far too nice person for that (except when I'm venting).

Take your time (and wait for more input so you can choose between at least two users. An election with just one candidate is no fun either. 8)

Jeysie

Not so much a b**** really, as it is a resigned lament of sorts...

You know, some drivers are nice people. Because of this, they want to be nice and stop so you can cross the road. Usually this is a very good thing.

But there are some days like today, where I'm once again crossing a two-lane street from the bus stop, which is a lengthy distance in either direction from a crosswalk, to my house. And there is a very nice person who decides to stop for me on my side of the road. The slight problem is that there was still a steady stream of cars going on the far side of the road. I eventually had to wave the person on to get them to go.

I find myself wishing I had a microphone I could use to talk to drivers. I then could say, "Sir/Ma'am, you are very nice for stopping for me. But given a choice between standing on the sidewalk waiting and standing in the middle of the road waiting, I'd rather stand here on the sidewalk."

It's a break-even brownie points matter for the driver, really. Like, +100 for being nice, but -100 for being a little deficient in logical reasoning. What's a grateful but stymied pedestrian to do? ;P

Peace & Luv, Liz

Rosedragon

I have a problem of being apedestrian but I live so far in the boonies that the nearest store is miles away, I cannot walk to anything important. I supose I could walk to the corner store but that involves crossing several busy streets, and is more than a mile away.

You don't need a microphone, there are megaphones available who can do that just as well, otherwise, you're going to have to hand out a receiver to any car driver who's driving along your designated road which is a highly unpractical thing. :scholar:
When I drive my car, my view is fixed on the road and the road signs that are alongside it. That view does not, or too late, register pedestrians that are waiting alongside the road wanting to cross. However, once they're on the road, I have no problem and can see them fast enough so I can slow down and let them pass on my side too. Maybe there are other car drivers suffering from what I'm having?

@Rosedragon: no traffic lights then, I gather? :(

Uh, before you decide to go and be a complete ass,

First of all, I was not trying to be rude to him. And we already settled this issue. Do not go about insulting other people Jeysie, I certainly don't appreciate it, and the next time direct anything personal to me through PM, instead of doing it in a thread that wasn't intended for it. Thank you.

Quote from: Warlock on April 04, 2005, 05:06:27 AMFirst of all, I was not trying to be rude to him.

QuoteLook, I already explained what you should do, it's not very hard.

<snip>

But since you can't seem to do that,

I dunno, sounds kind of rude/snippy to me...

QuoteDo not go about insulting other people Jeysie, I certainly don't appreciate it

So essentially, when you're rude it's OK, but when I'm rude it's not OK. (No, I don't think two wrongs make a right, just that you're the pot calling the kettle black here.)

As for saying things in public, I was pointing out the rudeness in your *public* post... not to mention I also wanted to point out why he might have been having trouble, just in case anyone else might have had trouble seeing the link too.

I'm bluntly honest. I thought you were being a jerk with your comment, so I said so. I don't sugar-coat things.
