Hello everyone!

King's Quest I know since I have 2 years (!!!) with the seventh part where we had to embody Valanice and Rosella (1994). I'm 18 now and I still (not later that one hour ago) to play again this year.

I was able to discover a French video game site (www.jeuxvideo.com) your project, I was very excited directly.
But I still ask myself a question: Your game will he a French translation?
And to complete: The game does have voice dialogue and cinematic?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Up...

B'rrr

I haven't heard anything about different languages, but since I am not a teammember it doesn't mean it won't be there!  :)

I don't know if there will be other languages either.

There are English voice dialogues and cinematics though. :)

Ok, thank you for your reply.
Hopefully there will be a French version!
If the game's development team wants to find dubbing the French version I can to do the dubbing in my native language

Dude, you guys should consider that!  That's a cool idea!  :)

With the demo at least, the source files were just Ogg files placed into a directory, so if that hasn't changed, it's plausible you could mod the game just by replacing each individual ogg file of the voices with the dubs in French. I think even the text that appeared was just in a file you could open in Notepad.

But keeping in mind all of the people used as voice actors in this game, and the sheer magnitude of the script...This would be no small task. And this is still assuming that they haven't changed the structure of the game to keep their resources files more hidden.

I do not think it will be very difficult (dubbing), I have experience in the dubbing of video games, I have already dubbing in Tomb Raider lol! I know several actors who I think would agree to do the dubbing English -> French gracefully.

(Now, someone needs to mention the French part of Bad Romance so Cray can come in and get blamed for it...)

You should definitely consider making versions in foreign languages if you can find enough volunteers.

I am volunteer lool.

Technically, a full translation of TSL is definitely possible. Every line in the game needs an .ogg file and a subtitle, and there are various menu and in-game textures that should be changed, plus a few odd texts here and there... Oh, and some of the videos have speech in them, and that would require a new mixing of the audio track for the videos.

In practice, recording and editing all the voices is a pretty daunting task and if anyone wants to give it a shot they better know what they are in for! :suffer:

A much simpler solution may be to only translate the subtitles, there is LOTS of text in there but it would be a much more feasible project I guess.

J'ai proposé une version française il y a plusieurs années, et je n'ai eu aucun retour... Bonne chance Symon  :)

You need more than just french though.  Make sure you get as many languages as possible, even if it's only subtitles.

I think the issue of translation was discussed on this forum a couple of years ago, but, as you can guess, it wasn't really a priority back then. I remember posting to say that as a French native speaker, I'd very much like to help on translating the game into French if needed. Just translating the subtitles could be a good start (and would require quite a lot of work already!).

The funny thing is that I actually started learning English with KQ3 - the first words I had to look up in a dictionary were, among many others, "feed" for "feed the chickens", lol.... and then all the weird ingredients like "mandrake root powder"  8)

B'rrr

I bet you used Mandrake Root Powder a lot in your daily use of english!  ;)

Same happend to me though, I too started learning my first few english words from playing KQ.

An ingredient for a magic potion in King's Quest 3.

Ah ok !
I've never played King's Quest III
I can not run the first games on my PC...

PS: I am still awaiting a response for the dubbing...

Simon--we did receive your email about that, but as it's a fairly complicated process and uch we're still discussing it. We will get back to you when we have an answer for you. :)
