Y'know, Cat, there's probably a lot more to the Nashville area than you realize. It also has a THRIVING alternative lifestyle nightlife culture (which is mainstream talk for what we call the "gay scene") -- which means that if I become a big enough event promoter, I can get a circuit party off the ground and come visit you. And it will be a "business trip" so totally a tax write off. ;D

The thing is though, Cat... you were NEVER very innocent! It was all an elaborate hoax!

As for the accents, Cat is absolutely correct. The dialects of the Southern accent vary as much as any accent I've learned in my acting career. You have the northern mountain accent (which would be the one Cat is referring to, because this is "northern" in the south) which usually called the "Carolina Mountain Dialect" or simply the "Southern Mountain Dialect" but if you go further south to like Georgia, the end of the Appalachians, you'll find that the dialect is different there too (although that's more to do with tempo rather than pronunciation, so it doesn't really have a name of its own). When I was in Gint we all had to learn the Southern Mountain Dialect because the entire first act takes place in the mountains of North Carolina and let me tell you, it was no picnic. It's a southern accent that not only uses the letter "r" (I know, what?) but like emphasizes it.
Really, in a sense, you can break up the south into four quadrants (north, south, east, west) and each one will have its own dialect, and then throw in the mountains and that should leave you with no less than six distinct southern dialects. What makes Tennessee a wonder is that, as Cat said, you can actually find three of them all naturally homegrown in that one state. That makes it unique among any other state in the country, I think.
It's a wonder any of ya'll can talk to each other though.

Actually, around Memphis, the Southern accents are very weak--a lot weaker than yours, Cat. I'm surprised people ask you where you're from!
 Jacob's from near Memphis and I don't think he has all that strong of an accent.

Awww, I guess I never really pictured you with a Southern accent, Cat!  That's too adorable! Does your husband have an accent too?

My husband is from Florida, so he doesn't have much of an accent at all. However, since he's been living in Tennessee, he's picked up a little bit of one. Every once in a while, I'll hear him flatten an "i" or drop a "g" at the ends of words. Quite funny, since he wasn't like that when we were dating :P

Graham, it would be awesome for you to come...if we are still in Tennessee. And the mountain accent I'm talking about is found in the Appalachian Mountains. Pretty cool, huh? Granted I went to graduate school in that area, so I heard it quite often!

That's the same accent I'm talking about, Cat. :P The Appalachian mountains themselves, if you want to discuss JUST mountain accents are really peculiar mostly in that the southernmost accent is nearly identical to the accent found at the northernmost end of the mountain range. Crazy!

And no leaving TN!

Cat has her own thread again?

Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor...I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.
