I'm one of those peeps that grew up with dogs.  I've never actually had a cat before, and when there's one near me I kind of panic a little.  Seriously!  My friend Tara has one and every now and then she'll toss him at me just to see me flail about.  I don't really know how to act around them.

You love on them when they want it, and leave them alone when they don't. :P Seriously, we probably would have a dog, but we don't have a yard. I don't mind indoor dogs, but feel like we should have an outdoor space for them as well.

"How to act around them"? It's not a crying baby. :P You don't have to do anything with a cat, especially if you don't own it (if you own it, it is highly recommended to feed it....)
It will let you know when it wants attention and when it doesn't. Pet it if it does. If it doesn't, don't.

Some cats don't mind being cuddled when they're just lying there sleeping. :P *has been missing his cat lately*

I was at a friend's house about a week or so ago working on her computer when her cat jumped up on my lap and laid down. I started stroking his back and within a few seconds felt my legs vibrating with his purring. I like dogs and all, but they just don't have anything that can equal that.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

A cat's purring is one of the most soothing sounds I know. :D

I desperately want to hear a snow leopard purr. :)

This is probably not what you were looking for. :P

Here's a cheetah. Supposedly, snow leopards can't purr, but there seems to be some disagreement on this.

I'd rather handle a crying baby.  I was stuck in the infant room for half a year, I know exactly how to handle a screamer!

But cats, no.  They're freaky.

I absolutely prefer cats over human babies. I prefer most things over human babies.

I love babies, but I don't have a clue about how to care for them. :P

Babies aren't as scary/annoying as one might think.  I was terrified of them when I was first placed in the infant room, but after spending six months with them I think I can handle any screamer, pooper, difficult feeder, etc.
