Short and bittersweet

Player1

I was mostly pleasantly surprised but a little unpleasantly surprised.  The game carefully preserves the history and experience of its predecessors down to fine detail.  The cutscenes were very well done and the different scene settings are almost perfect recreations of KQ6.  Overall, I'd say a great start.

I have two criticisms, however.

The first is that there were pretty much no puzzles to solve, no opportunity really to go off track.

The second is probably the most obvious: it is really short.  I certainly didn't expect a game which is split up into 5 small episodes to be long, but it was much shorter than I expected.  I had hoped the first episode would conclude after successfully completing an intermediate type puzzle that would draw out the play time a bit.

All of that said, I am anxiously awaiting the release of episode 2 and am now inspired to dig out my floppies to replay the old episodes.

The remaining episodes are much longer than episode 1. Ep 1 is meant as kind of a re-introduction to the King's Quest universe. And there are some things in episode 1 that I'm willing to bet you didn't catch. Replay it and click and interact on EVERYTHING! You can get some pretty hilarious dialogue from the narrator.

I don't want to sound ungrateful for your hard work, but I got a little disappointed when I saw the credits after so little time playing and just one straightforward puzzle solved. Maybe "Episode I" should be renamed to "Prologue", don't you agree?

Anyway, I can hardly wait for the next episode! ;)

I can assure you, you'll feel differently after the second episode...

I anxiously await it :)

Can I ask though: Do you think the other eps will be as "linear" as this first one? I was kinda hoping to get "stuck" and have to wander all around. As much as it fustrates me, it makes the game so much more enjoyable to finish.

From reading the in game tips on playing, I'm pretty sure they won't be as linear, you'll have to wander around, as you said.

I believe this first episode was meant to be linear since it is mostly an introduction similar to the introduction in a novel.  From that point on, we will begin to get into the meat of the story where the player should get more control as far as exploration goes.  In the second through fifth episodes, we should see some mind bending puzzles, exploration, and hopefully even a mind bending maze or two as was seen in KQ5 and KQ6.

The presentation is phenomenal and the mystery of it all is intriguing.  Congratulations to the team for a job well done.  I can't wait for the next episode.  Hopefully it will be released within the next month or two.
