Some thoughts on writing

While that is interesting, I find that NO reason to just stop writing.  Writing isn't about producing something that's perfect.  Authors tend to overcriticize their writing.  Even Stephen King himself!  His first book wouldn't have been published if not for his wife, who had found it in the trash!  He must have thought it was crap, but apparently, nobody else did.

My thoughts?  White what you feel.  That's the whole point of writing.  It doesn't have to be good.  Even a haiku about hating poetry is writing.  It's not about attention or fame.  I'm no expert on writing, but I DID take a creative writing class, and NONE of it was about being "a good writer"

I live for fanfiction.  I don't know how long it's been since I've read a real book (besides the KQ companion, but that doesn't really count!)  I like to see how an "average" person sees things, and what goes on in their minds.

An no one gets it just right on the first try.  Sure, It's one thing to feel a piece of writing could use some work, but that's all the more reason to continue.  You can't be a better writer without writing a few "less worthy" pieces somewhere along the way.  You've got to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run.  Take it a step at a time.  Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day, and Einstein failed classes in school.  We all hit some roadblocks along the way, but that's no reason to quit.

Nearly all my pieces of fanfiction (that thread is around here somehwere) were written in spur of the moment, with nothing but spelling corrected (God bless the person who invented spell check!), and people loved most of them.  I didn't care about producing something decent, just wrote what I felt like.  And in the end, it doesn't matter if you're the suckiest writer in the world.  If you wake up in the morning and feel like writing, then do so.  And don't let anyone, even Stephen King, convince you otherwise.

Nobody said I was gonna stop writing. :)

I'm just not going to post.  It's not a good idea to post something that isn't finished, as I've learned.

Oh, ok then!  It just seemed to me that you might stop altogether if you didn't end up producing something you liked:P .  But still, what I was saying holds.  And goes for everyone who feels they should stop or "take a break but not come back for 8 years when no one remmebers anything about me".

To add another opnion to the mix, sometimes getting feedback on unfinished stories is what a writer needs, too.  To help them get past whatever their block might be or figure out why something feels unfinished but they don't know why.

BTW, hello Mikazo, I'm Katie :)
