I think they ahve gone whole hog with character redesigns at least for some characters, I mean Alexander looks sorta like an anime character with the spiky hair.

You are right.  However, Alexander was only depicted to a great extent visually in ONE of the previous KQ games.  After all the criticisms I have made, I want to say that I think Alexander's and many of the other characters' designs are excellent.  I can't say the same thing about the style of King Graham, who could have done with an updated, more believable adventuring getup.

He's been depicted to a great extent visually in multiple games, certainly more than "ONE of the previous KQ games".  Check out the cover in KQ3, he's shown multiple times in in 256-color VGA in KQ5 (see the cutscene in Mushka's crystal ball, and the ending sequence), he even got a few close ups in KQ4. Yes, he also gets some 256 visulization in KQ6.

Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

I believe the key phrasing there would be "depicted to a great extent", Baggins.

He's been depicted four different times visually (five if you count the Floating Castle cover art).

He has the artistic appearance on KQ3 box, and his sprite. He has 2-3 EGA close-ups (all in the same costume) in KQ4, and his sprite, he has a 2-3 close ups in KQ5 (all in the same costume), and his sprite. He has 2-3 close ups in KQ6 (all in the same costume) and his sprite.

Seems to me that his visualization is about the same for each of the games he has appeared in. One close up visual appearance (used in different angles) and a sprite visual appearance. So I don't know what Sahara meant by only being "depicated great extent visually in ONE game".

This is a semantics argument, then, and there's no point in continuing to belabor the point.

I just meant that it wasn't as if his exact physical appearance had become so entrenched (as a result of having been depicted with great detail in many games) that it would be heresy to tweak his appearance, but you mention some other examples that I hadn't thought of.  Again, I think his new look is a plus.

Anyway, I think the character designs and the rest of TSL's art is really outstanding.... and hopefully the good stuff about the game doesn't get forgotten with all the talk of areas for improvement.

I have been most unhappy with the character dialogue and narration, though after finishing the episode a second time and spending more time with the cutscenes, I think parts of the character dialogue are well done.  I had originally written on the AGDI forum that I found the dialogue horrendous... I still think there are bits that are lacking, and unfortunately a lot of it is at the beginning of the episode.  The first scene with speaking, for example, is corny with too much blah, cliched, unnatural conversation.  If ever there was a scene to not get wrong, it is the first scene right out of the gate!  Also, when Graham is talking to that green woman in the courtyard, he states, somewhat matter-of-factly, how he wishes he knew what happened to his children... well, duh!  Most of the dialogue isn't exactly horrendous (I think that was a hasty overstatement on my part), but a lot of it is a bit lifeless and in need of some editing.  I think the way the narrator operates within the game, however, needs a serious rethink by the TSL team... in addition to editing.

Don't get me wrong just because I described Alexander as looking like a anime or rpg character I wasn't knocking his look. I was just noting the different direction the game was taking form previous games.

Yeah. Even though his outfit changes from the same outfit in KQ3, 4 and 5, his look stays the same. He has the same face with long hair slicked back with the hair on the back of his head even with his chin. He basically has the same hair cut as Graham except Alex's is slicked back and neater.

Well, been like 2-3 years since KQ6, a lot has happend since then (married, becomming a king, leaving his parents, etc) and it is a quite decent reason that this change in his life is accompanied by a haircut that differs from what he had before.

Ok, as far as Alex's hair goes.... it's not necessarily a very modern thing. People can have very lightweight hair and when it is cut very short, it spikes itself. Sticks straight up. So unless we're saying it's impossible for Alexander to get a haircut, I think we should leave that one alone. I mean, he's a king now. I'm 99.9% sure he can afford a haircut.
