I just wanted to make everyone aware of what I thought about the audio in this game.

I LOVED IT!

I want to know, was the soundtrack 100% original?

The voice acting, and the sound effects were spot on, too. I always hated how in some games, when you're walking, your footsteps don't match the sound.

KatieHal

The music, done by the very talented Austin Haynes, is indeed 100% original! And the sound design, etc, was done by the also talented Daniel Chase, from the trailers to the game and its sound effects. Michael Fortunato was our Voice Over Director and got some great work out of our actors!

Alyse--you mentioned in another thread you reviewed the game. I'd love to read it!

impulsegamer.com It was my first project for that site.

I have to admit, at first I felt like, WTF? They're giving me a free game? And I had never heard of the KQ series. So then I played some old KQ games and realized what a gem this game is.

Why the sad face? I think I gave it a good review! I was very impressed by this game. I expected a crap-game, and it was a good game! XD

KatieHal

Thanks Alyse! And thanks for the nice review :) I'm glad we surprised you with how good the game is! (and congrats on your first review, too!)

Haha, thanks!

I think it's great that you guys made this game.

My dad was 12 when The Wizard and the Princess/Adventures in Serenia came out... I think I was only 7 when the last KQ game came out... //edit: I was 11 when the last title came out.

So without this game, I would not be a fan of the series, and I don't know how many other people never heard of the series until TSL. :)

I don't see why there was so much push-back from Vivendi and Activision over it. The way I see it, you got new fans to their game! I was saddened to learn it was condensed from nine chapters to five episodes. XD

Anyway, as off-topic as that all was, I'm throwing this in to stay as on-topic as I can:

I'm even more impressed with the audio now to learn it was 100% original. I want those songs on my Zune to write to. It's so difficult for me to write anything while listening to songs with lyrics; I start typing the lyrics. XD

9 Chapters to 5 Episodes, did Vivendi Forced the TSL Team to Cut Down on the Game. ???

I seem to remember the Team saying there will be Videos of Behind the Scenes of TSL and also Deleted Scenes, when and where can we see that please. :)

KatieHal

It's a complicated matter, but we know they were acting to protect their copyright, which is their right and responsibility. We're just very glad we were able to work something out and that this could happen!

I believe we do have plans to release the soundtrack, though I'm not sure when. But to tide you over, our composer does have a recent CD out! http://www.postudios.com/blog/?p=194

Daventry: We've posted elsewhere about this, but the decision to condense the game and storyline was ours. The 9 Chapter story was HUGE and it just wasn't feasible to make it into a game on the time and non-budget that we had.

Those will be coming! I don't have hard dates for you, but we have a lot of things we want to get done for you guys. :)

You don't want to be able to see deleted scenes until the end of the game!! Spoilers.

@KatieHal I was under the assumption that the game being made into 5 episodes was a result of the Activision dispute. I need to check my sources. xD

I agree that the audio was excellent, but with one exception:

Lord Azure (King of the Winged Ones) had a good amount of reverb on his voice, but every time he stopped talking, the voice clip was cut short that the echo abruptly ended. It sort of annoyed me...

But of course, that's a small complaint for an otherwise phenomenal game.

Nice read, Alyse  :)

Also behind the scenes of TSL might be scary! *blinks*

As long as the 5 Chapters Answers All the Questions since the Series and Closes the Kings Quest Book, then im Happy.  ;D

KatieHal

Alyse: No, it was an internal decision. I can give you a fuller rundown on that later--I'm about to run out for the day just now. :) Or one of the other forumers or staff members may be able to fill you in in the meantime!

I must say, most games i don't pay attention to the sound.  The new Aliens versus predator game had some good sounds from the 1986 movie.  But, this music is so atmospheric the whole time.  The graphics are great, but the sound pumps it up at least as much in this case. It really draws you in. Couldn't be better. Props to the sound/music people.

Thank you very much, guys. As the main composer for this game, I'm very happy to hear that you love it :-)!

Stay tuned for more episodes of TSL later this year! There is plenty of more music that I hope impacts you in a heartfelt way as much as it did me creating it.

Also, check out my album Evening Light which is completely different than TSL. I hope you like it! You can find more info on it here: http://www.postudios.com/blog/?p=194

I have it on sale from CDBABY for only $6.99 right now here: www.cdbaby.com/austinhaynes
It's also available on iTunes and Amazon as well.

Cesar Bittar, The Silver Lining's Director/Producer, had this to say: "Austin has the distinct ability to recognize those spots in anyone's soul that have to be turned emotionally for music to really grab you and knock you out. ... This is a musical journey and Austin boldly expresses what he wants to say in a bombastic manner, and not holding anything back."

I have to agree on the audio - everything from the music to the voices to the sound effects were really well done!  They really made it seem like an interactive movie.  The music really sucked you into their world and the situation.  And I'll be honest that I was surprised I liked the voices as much as I did (Graham is simply phenomenal!) - I'm usually pretty harsh with voice acting in general, but it really impressed me, especially considering it's a fan made game.

Fabulous job to all involved!
Finally a place where no one will ask me what my screenname means or how to pronounce it!

Yes, Daniel Chase who did the sound effects did an excellent job making the sounds realistic and appropriate. Michael Fortunato also did a great job getting some very nice performances out of the voice actors. It's great working with these guys who are so dedicated.  :)
