Stuck in KQ7

I'm stuck early in Chapter 5 of King's Quest 7... I try using the feather on the snoring rock to wake him, but all he does is say "you again?!" and blow me back to the desert. According to the walkthroughs I was supposed to have talked to him in Chapter 3, where he explains how to reconstruct the river and turn the stag back into a human with the secret nectar, but now he doesn't want to tell me anything. I can't use the Nectar in Pot on the statue (it just stays grey), and so I can't go past the were-bear to the other side because the plant thing eats me every time...

I did, but if I use it before I restore the forest, I get eaten by the plant monster by Malicia's house because the stag didn't get turned back into a human yet, and so he can't save me.

You put the moon back in the sky and used the salve with the fur right?  Valanice shouldn't be getting eaten by the plant because she doesn't need to go into the house, just go straight to Ooga Booga.

This is the problem with using a walkthrough. I came to the same problem because I knew what I needed to do. Do you have any reason to think that waking up the rock will help you, aside from that a guide tells you so?

Talk to Attis, and he'll tell you to seek help from Feldspar, the rock spirit. For that matter, always talk to whomever you can. It helps you get a better grasp on the plot of the game and makes it a lot more enjoyable.

The rock helps out in Chapter 3, not in Chapter 5.  You're in the Nightmare in Etheria chapter right?  After you already did a bunch of stuff with Rosella in Ooga Booga?

No, you can restore the river, and Lord Attis, in chapter 3 or chapter 5.

The plant monster isn't in Malicia's house, it appears outside as soon as you're finished running by the were-bear in Jackalope form if you haven't restored the forest yet.

Rosella was right, I should have talked more. Turns out I didn't talk to the stag enough for him to tell me I should seek help from the rock spirit. After he told me to consult the rock, the rock was finally responsive and I was able to restore the forest

Kinda sad that Attis' wife still has to remain a tree though

Well, if you start the game on Chapter 5, then I believe Attis is still a stag.  You need to speak to him first to trigger the rock face dialogue.  King's Quest don't let you take shortcuts!
