Whaaaaaaaaat?!

I had my soul surgically removed when I was admitted to the asylum 489 years ago! Is that where it went?

(If my chart says I've been in the asylum any less time than that, the chart must be wrong! It isn't me. I tell time PERFICKLY!)

It's a natural equilibrium sort of thing... gets really, really good at hunting... gets chubby, works that off through hunting. This is why you never see cats jogging. ::) :P

I don't get it. See, to me, dogs trump cats ANY day! Cats are weird: they're moody, hissy, scratchy, pretend to like you then claw the hell out of you when you go to pet them. They're biploar, they sneak up behind you, and all in all cannot be trusted. I don't understand cats at all! I hate most of them and generally they hate me right back.

To be fair, however, I have not once owned a cat in all my life. It has been strictly a dogs-only zone in my household for as long as my parents have been married--and before, actually; Dad and Mom didn't have cats growing up either--and I'm relatively certain that none of us would know what to do with one.

Okay, you aren't a cat person... fortunately, this goggie is :P

Cat-people value cat independence... you see it as stand-offish... meh, Velcro used to cuddle with me through the night, so I can't see it that way. :P (He'd then get up in the wee hours of the morning and I'd have to get up and look after him... but that was my dad's rule... had nothing to do with his being a cat. :P)

Here... have another puppy.

Okay, I'm sure there's a reason I'm doing this instead of getting dressed or re-reading how various essays in various languages are meant to be structured. XD

What you might be referring to as clawing could, in fact, be kneading. :P It's something they start doing when they're very young and just means that the happiness they're feeling at that moment reminds them of when they were kittens and happy and snuggly and warm and suckling, which is an adorable idea. :P But since I know this can be unpleasant, I recommend a blanket because it will make kitteh happier and you safe from claws! :D

Cat-people like independence. :P That doesn't mean the cats don't cuddle 75-ish% of the time anyway. :P And with most of the cats I've ever had, picking them up was sufficient to make them want to cuddle. XD And cats are clean. :P Dogs are not clean animals. :P They like to get dirty. :P I don't like to get dirty and have absolutely no interest in getting dirty with them. :P And the barking irks me to no end, because I'm high and therefore hyperacoustic quite a lot of the time. :P Also, our lab gets into absolutely everything and cannot be left alone. :S She steals food when we're not looking, she makes an absolute mess of everything and she's very loud and whines and demands endless amounts of attention and walks I don't have time for. :P Cats, while they might demand attention too, generally do so by jumping on my lap and letting me multitask. I've managed to make them stop sitting on whatever it is I'm doing. XD

There... thank you. You said it better... I just trailed off and got sentimental... :P

I'd also like to point out that when large dogs get excited they wag their tales very affectionately, which is great for the dog but can knock over pot plants, ornaments, and generally anything moderately tall, which is kind of irritating. Whereas a cat can stalk carefully across a desk strewn with delicate and breakable objects and avoid knocking a single one of them over.

Oh, and cats TOTALLY do the OMG-YOU'RE-HOME thing, just... not every time you leave the room/house. :P

Velcro would be super-clingy whenever we came home from vacation. :D

Biri would be snuggly and purr all night long the first night we were back. :P She'd then be passive-aggressive and aloof for a few days and then she would snuggle and luff! :D

My cat Alex does this thing -- almost every time we come back from going somewhere.

He'll be waiting by the door and we'll walk in and he'll let out exactly one very excited "Mrrrrrf!" (he doesn't meow, he "mrrf"s) and then he will be passive-aggressive with us for about ten minutes as punishment for leaving without his express permission, and then he'll be totally normal.

And normal means, he likes to be nearby but if we're busy at home he usually doesn't interrupt. He'll come bother you for petting if you're like.... reading or vegging out (he can totally tell the difference between working and playing on a computer). Otherwise, he usually won't interrupt unless he's actually legitimately hungry. But he always likes to be nearby his people.
