César - I think you missed the "Suffer" smilie; we ended up with a mere wink.

I bet he has some evil sceme going on, trying to look all nice and such and then suddenly shower us with suffers when we do not expect it  :-\

I just saw this thread and rather agree. :P I'm sure the vast majority of us have or had speech impediments or annoying ticks. I agree that he perhaps wasn't the best choice as Oberon, but that's because I find his voice a bit weak and grating, but I'm sure not everyone is quite so sensitive and some might well like him in that role.

It was the nasal sounds that bugged me. And he sounds nothing like the Arch Druid from KQ6. In fact that character seemed totally changed from what I saw him as in KQ6. I've never heard Oberon's voice in KQ7 (I never did like that game so I never played it) so I can't comment on that. But he just sounded too nasally for my taste. But it's a free game with spare-time contributors. So it's not game-breaking for me.

But you spelt it correctly there, Rob!

I still think it's mean to make light of people's speech problems by making the names of their impairments contain the letters they have issues with.
Well, the word "rhotacism" describes the condition. "Rho" is the Greek "R". :P It's kind of impossible to describe a condition without expressing what it is. :P

that is not true, you could just make up a completely random word and say their meaning is something. if instead of the word rhotacism everyone from now on used blaat for the condition it would solve everything.

You can hear Oberon here (about 6:30 or so);

Quite a bit different imo.

Here is Arch Druid (about 1:30 in)

BTW, some of us may not think the guy's voice is right for the part, but in no way does that make it right for anyone to insult anyone for their disabilities or speech impediments... That just isn't right...

lol, I remember that from previous conversations with you. Gosh, has it been 5 or 6 years since we chatted on MSN?? Anyway, being a speech therapist, I actually fight for my students and jump on people's cases when my kiddos ARE made fun of!

I believe mostly everyone in this thread has been discussing the speech impediments, as well the other ways of speaking, in a tone that is reminiscent of the forums. You see Cray and Mango bantering back and forth, so yeah, I can see how that might come across as a little rude if you are unfamiliar with the forums. And several people in the thread have talked about how they had speech impediments growing up. Heck, I had to be retaught how to speak! It wasn't just one or two speech sounds in error, but practically every sound I said was wrong!

Fight for your students, eh? Do you punch the bullies so hard in the face, that you give them speech impediments?

ROFFLE! Not quite! During the school year, I had one child that just had a hard time saying his sounds...a severe speech impediment. I had another student who would giggle when the other was talking. I had a rule that we don't laugh at each other because all of us are working on our speech. You should've seen some of the looks I gave the child! I was like "OH NO YOU DON'T!" We even had a little "heart-to-heart" at the end of class one day, because I was done with his laughter.

That's good. It can be hard on a kid when they have to work through their obstacles and then have other kids laugh at their shortcomings. Besides creating a complex, it's just down-right rude to make fun of them. It's good to hear there are people who stand up for those kids.

KatieHal

I couldn't tell you--not won't, but can't! I don't know what her real name is, so while she might be one of the voices we got from online auditions, I'm not sure.
