Oh, they dropped the KQ9, but they do still consider themselves to be the ones to bring "closure" to the series as a whole...or at least Dark-Daventry considers it to be. He has his right to his opinion of course. Of course he may just be one of the fans on this board, I don't know if he's involved with the game development.

I think they have continued to say they intend to bring "answers the loose ends, unsolved questions and mysteries of the series, and to give a climatic resolution to the series". Which is essentially saying the same thing as saying "we are the continuation of the series", or trying to bring "closure". Again that may have been an individual from the team and not necessarily the view of the entire game staff.

I can't speak for individual developers thoughts on the issue.

I know of at least two other fan fictions that make the same claim, LOL (at least one of those calls their story King's Quest IX).
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

I've split off the latter chunk of this thread since it was way off-topic.
