No way around the intro

Not sure if anyone else had the same problem, but I found that I could not get around the intro to a saved game.  Also, I am unaware of how to jump or run, as in previous games.  Anyone know how to do these things?  Otherwise, I could NOT be more happy to be playing a game that has been a family favorite for many years.  Bravo to the production team!

Jump and run? The only game that allowed you to do that was Mask of Eternity, and this game's playing style isn't like that. Also, on the main menu, you pick the Restore option to load up a saved game.

You can jump, duck, and swim in KQ1 :).
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

After the first viewing of the intro, you should be able to double-click to skip the intro.

Ya you can click to skip the intro, and there's no real point in jumping or running in this game, so it's not necessary.  Graham would probably break a hip anyway.

The only thing about the intro that I came across, is that I can't watch it again. The button 'Intro' seems to be missing from the main menu. Is that going to be added in the next release or is quiting the game and restarting it the only way to watch the intro again ??
It seems totally incredible to me now that everyone spent that evening as though it were just like any other. From the railway station came the sound of shunting trains, ringing and rumbling, softened almost into melody by the distance ...

wilco64256

Yes it only plays when the game starts up.

This just got me thinking...How about when you launch the game, just display the main menu and have "Intro" as one of the options?

This seems like a solution to me. That's how KQVI did it, after all. Just my two cents.

Defintly an oversight at POS's end . . .

My idea exactly!

I don't know that I would call it an "oversight."  Most game these days don't just have a menu option to replay the intro over and over.  It's just something that we didn't even think of, and it's not really something we can change at this point since you all already have the menu installed - that won't change when we roll out another episode and we aren't looking to patch Episode 1 at the moment.

It makes sense to watch the intro when you start up a new game. I would see no reason to watch the intro again in between episodes. The story will be seamlessly connected from one episode to the next, so I wouldn't see a need to go back and remind myself, "Oh right! It was Alex and Rose who were attacked by Shadrack." I also wouldn't consider it an oversight, it's Storytelling 101. An intro is supposed to kick off a story.

With all due respect, this seems very patchable. When the game boots, it automatically plays the intro movie. A patch could simply tell the game's line of execution to NOT play the intro movie upon game launch, and instead add an "Intro Movie" button on the main menu. It seems like a quick fix, should the team choose to go for it.

You're right - it probably could be changed, but don't hope too much for something like that.  We're all giving every second we possibly can to getting episode two out the door right now, and aren't really looking into releasing patches for anything else along with that.  I'm sure lots of people would like lots of things tweaked a bit here and there, even I think it'd be nice if the game jumped straight to the menu sometimes, but on our list of priorities something like that isn't really really high right now.

Don't take that to mean it's absolutely not going to ever happen - it's always possible that we may find a little extra time here or there to implement something like that.  I'm just saying we're not going to stop working on the Episode 2 that everybody's waiting for to go back and tweak something in Episode 1 that isn't really a problem but rather a matter of preference.

I definitely realize that such a patch is very low priority. Frankly, you'd be wasting your time working on it with 4 other episodes to finish. I just wanted to explain why I think it is patchable.
