TSL Hopes and Dreams

While The Silver Lining is a dream come true in and of itself, this thread is for the posting the things you would like to see occur in the game. I don't know how much has been finalized in the script, but I know there are some places in the game I would love to go that we never had a chance to in previous ones, loose ends to be tied, and other elements of mythology and fairy tales that would be fun to include.

We know Graham has a list of spell ingredients to hunt down, but we don't yet know what those are. Chapter one was mostly "You need this thing, so you need to go here." and "Go see this person." As of yet, there have been very little roadblocks, and fewer seemingly random items.

In KQVI, you picked up anything that wasn't nailed down. Why would you need a boring book? Who knows, but into Alex's endless pockets it goes! I'd like for there to be more items, and addition side quests to help Graham along his way.

We never got any further than the gate of the Isle of the Beast. I'd like to explore the castle, without having to navigate hedge maze. What if Graham's quest for the spell ingredients brings him to the Castle of the Beast, only to find the maze burned to the ground, with the castle's master no where to be found. I would love a period of time of Graham exploring the castle, and attempting to discover what foul play has befallen the former beast.

What about you? What would you like to see?

Pretty much all of it. Better cross your fingers that your "hopes and dreams" are realized in Episodes 2-5, because the team is now working on finishing touches, as I understand it.

Deity, respectfully, I think you're misinterpreting his post. It's just a list of "hopes and dreams", things he's hoping to see.  There's no indication that he will dislike the game or complain should his wishes not be realized.

Personally I'd love to see a bunch of people posting about things they'd like to see here.  Granted, it is accurate that we are primarily just finishing off things at this point so there's not going to be any additions to the game, but that's not at all to say that nobody will get what they want anyway.  It'd be interesting to see.

I overreacted. I'm sorry. I'll remove my post.

Also, it's not that I misinterpreted his post. I was just thinking about the consequence it would cause on people going into the game with expectations, and then leaving with regret.

I didn't see the post that was removed, and now am a bit scared.  :-[

I'm going to play the game through, no matter what. Love King's Quest. I want to explore more of the world.I'm curious what the puzzles will entail, as KQ6 had a nice row of dominoes approach when it came to problem solving. Getting the spell book required talking to the book worm, figuring out what he wanted, finding it, trading it for the rare book, and then trading that for the spell book, which opened more doors forward. I'm hoping that each spell ingredient that Graham is looking for will require multiple steps to appropriate, and will bring us to new places withing the Green Isles. the bit about the Beast's castle was just because we never got to go there, but if we were, there would be a hedge maze in the way. And since I think most can agree that the mazes were among the most frustrating parts of the original KQ games (Beyond falling down stairs), it would be best to avoid it. The easiest way I could think of to avoid the hedge maze, would be if it were burned, and with things going awry in the Kingdom, it seemed like a logical step that if the maze were burned, that the Beast would be in trouble, and Graham would have to save him. It would be fun to play.

No need to be scared.  :P

I didn't say anything bad about you or what you said. All I said was that there have been a large array of people complaining about TSL overall. They say they want one thing, but when the team tells them that it isn't important to patch it into the game, they start complaining and whining. I wasn't saying that you were one of those people, but just that there have been many of them in other threads.

So I had said that "hopes and dreams" are fine to have, but keep in mind that the game's already close to being finished and the team is just applying final touches on it. It's not bad to have hopes and dreams, but for those who go on rants because they didn't get the game the way they wanted it is just sad. I was trying to emphasize what kindofdoon had said, but then he said I misinterpreted it. So then I chose to remove my post.

I can see how I was going overboard by bring it up, but I wanted to stress how much the people who think they are entitled to Phoenix' personal care need to stop being so spoiled. It wasn't related to this particular topic, and I wasn't saying anything about you personally. Just stating that it is related to the concept. Sorry if I derailed your discussion. I'll try to be more considerate next time.

This is why I particularly like the setup for this thread - Hopes and Dreams.  It's a good place to discuss things you hope to see or wish could be in the game, while at the same time understanding that they may not necessarily come to be.

The feedback is great, we do like hearing from the community.  And we do like hearing about things you'd like to see in future episodes primarily because any time you ask for something that we already have in store for you we give a little cheer.

So keep it coming, and know that if we tell you we can't implement an idea you have or even something that would be fairly practical (like the intro thing) it's not because we think it's a bad idea or because we don't care, it really just boils down to time.  We want to keep these episodes coming out for you guys on a reasonable timeframe, so every time any change comes up we look at it and ask whether it's going to be worth taking someone away from a camera that's initializing in a wall or Graham falling through the floor.  A lot of us are already working 8 hours a day or more before we even start work on The Silver Lining, so every moment we can put into it has to be put into stuff that is the most critical for getting the next episode finished and ready for you folks to download.

I hope the Fairy Godmother shows up again.

And I hope Graham gives her a piece of his mind! What kind of godmother shows up ONCE? In his first, easiest adventure no less? Did she even bother to help search for Alexander? Worst fairy godmother EVER!

We're roleplaying in the King's Quest world: come join in the fun!

I was hoping that we'd be able to play as different members of the royal family and play as Alexander and Rosella again in their dream states.  But I think it was mentioned in another thread that the entire game is Graham.

I'd like to see some of the lands or concepts of Mask of Eternity be incorporated here.  For all the flak it gets, it's still in the King's Quest series and it would be nice to see it fully incorporated into the King's Quest genre of adventure games where you use your brain and are rewarded for less violence rather than fighting everything that moves.

Correct, I believe they cut out non-Graham playable characters a while ago.

Going to Daventry!!!!!

Seriously, being able to explore Daventry in this kind of 3d would make me faint from the sheer amount of win.

They cut that out, sorry... :( It hurts, I know.

WHAT?

Lies!

Didn't they say that you have to bring Alexander and Rosella to their homeland for the spell to work??

kindofdoon

Yeah, I asked the same question...I guess Graham is too rebellious to listen to the infinitely wise Arch Druid.

Someone offered an explanation of how the spell would still work, but I don't think it made sense, and I lack the energy to find that post right now.

This is one of the reasons I wanted to warn people about the topic. I thought going to Daventry and playing as Alexander and Rosella would be cool ideas too. I know a lot of people were looking forward to those features because of Alex and Rose needing to go to Daventry, and both of them needing to conquer their dream state. I just wouldn't want people being discouraged or disappointed because what they want isn't going to make it into the game.

Still, keep in mind that the game is in good hands; and even if it isn't going to be what you originally wanted, what they will deliver will more than make up for it, I'm sure.  ;)

It would be neat if Graham peered into a random rock hole and momentarily lapsed into a trailer for Corridor 9.

To reiterate the thing about Daventry and the spell: Daventry isn't a playable section of the game, but just because it isn't doesn't mean Graham doesn't listen to the Arch Druid and send his kids there for the purposes of casting the spell.
