What's your favorite kind of music?

All time favorite music includes The Doors and Pink Floyd.  I also enjoy Portishead, Gorillaz, and Gnarls Barkley.  And of course Bootsy Collins is Lord of Da Funk.  Basically if something sounds like you'd need to be high to enjoy it, odds are I like it (well, except for Phish, Grateful Dead, or any other music that's just arpeggios).  And no, I'm actually not a stoner.  Go figure.  Basically I'll listen to almost anything.  I hate country.  Hate it.  It's like poison to my system.  You know those aliens from Mars Attacks?  Yeah.  Just like that.

Relient K is my favorite. Come to think of it, I think we've discussed this before.
I'll listen to just about anything also; as long as it doesn't have twanging country voices, isn't completely screamo and isn't full of cuss words or blatant sexual imagery every five seconds, I'm good with it.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

Mostly rock, punk, reggaeton, hip-hop and trance/techno. Bullet for my Valentine, Paramore, Taking Back Sunday, Escape the Fate, Nina Sky, Lydia, LIGHTS, Tiesto, etc. Basically...I'm pretty diverse. But as of lately I've taken a liking to movie soundtracks, specifically Inception and Dark Knight. Hanz Zimmer is a beast composer.

TheReturnofDMD

Led Zeppelin is my favorite kind of music. Very few bands have been able to exceed the beauty of the music they created.

Lambonius

Zeppelin is good s***.  My personal favorite band is probably Pearl Jam--the only band I've ever heard where I actually think each new album is consistently better than the one before.  Favorite individual artist--Bob Dylan, hands down.

I adore classical (ie. not just "Classical" but also Baroque and Romantic music, and some modernist stuff). I play violin and I'm currently trying to wrap my fingers around Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. Very fun, but I pity my poor family having to listen to me scratching away  :D

I'm also a big Jonathan Coulton fan. "Still Alive" is great fun but my personal favourite is "Skullcrusher Mountain".
Prince of the Aquitaine. Duke of York.

Knight errant and consort to Her Grace the Empress Deloria of the Holy Roman Empire, Queene of all Albion and Princess Palatine.

Still Alive is a great song indeed. I didn't know that Mr. Coulton had a music career outside of that one song though. I'll check it out.

Relient k is really good.  I never thought of them as a "christian band"  they are a real band formed of christians.

My favorite band, as you may have heard, is Mew.  everyone should check them out.  I can't really describe them with words without watering it down a lot.  just listen.

Am I wry?  No,  156, special, panda, mica, hawaii, beach, special, comforting sounds.

all good examples of mewsic.  youtube to the rescue.

It seems hard not to classify a band as a Christian band when a sample of their lyrics is

Jesus, I pray
Take all my mistakes
Throw them away
Destroy them for my sake

Jesus, I call out 'cause I'm sorry
Because I fall so short of your glory
To the best of my ability
I'm practicing humility
And I lay myself before
'Cause less is more

true....

but that is also their older stuff.

I think their newer songwriting is much better in terms of delivering a message without being too preechy or whatever.

Right, and as I've said, that's why I love Relient K. Their message is one of humility, forgiveness, kindness, etc., not necessarily religion. :)

But all the same, clearly the fact that they are Christian influences their music. :)

yes...  I love matty's songwriting.  he is really smart and funny.  a lot of their references really crack me up.  the music is solid too and they sound really good live and acoustic.

I have been listening to Muse a lot today.  anyone here listen to them?

Ugh. If you asked me to name bands I can't stand, Muse would be pretty high up there. XD

I mean no offense to anyone who likes them, and I understand it's a good bit of people with great taste in music. I'm the only one of my friends who doesn't, but there's something about their sound that is just....Gah. XD I just find it incredibly boring and it seems to drone on and on. It's like Animal Crossing; everyone else seems to love it, but I just can't stand it. XD

might I ask what songs you have heard by them?

you have to really get sucked into their music.  their sound is very refined and without paying attention it can sound annoying at times.

try listening to exogenisis symphony in its 13 minute glory.  that is not a borig peice of music by any standard.

how about this one?  who has listened to mew?  I have been talking about them a bit lately.  probably my favorite band.  check out the songs from a few posts up.

I listened to them on your suggestion and my reaction was best summarized as "meh".

They had one song, I think called "Paper Cut" or something similar, that was sort of interesting.

i think that is an old b side.  what did you listen to?   their music varies quite a bit.  if you thought it was meh, you should hear some from the glass handed kites era.  a prog inspired album that ties together really well and is interesting and varied the wehole way through.  they are not the easiest band to get into though.  the only thing that kept me listening to them for the first few weeks (long enough to really get into them) was that I loved the voice.  dude has a really amazing range.
