A plot question
« on: August 04, 2010, 12:33:59 PM »
I noticed the presence of Shamir in the children's bedroom during the in-game intro. I was curious as to why Shamir couldn't just send Graham to the Isle of the Sacred Mountain; Seeing as he more than likely brought the Royal Family from Daventry and Oberon and Titania from Etheria, and it's clearly stated and shown in KQ6 that he is able to travel to the different islands. I don't understand why Graham needs to use the ferry when there is a genie who can teleport both himself and other people to the other islands.

Maybe it's cause Graham isn't Shamir's Master. Technically, Alexander is Shamir's Master, and he's in a coma.  :)

Shamir was busy elsewhere. Maybe you'll find out what in another episode....

He's a genie, not a taxi service! :P

He's taxied the Royal Familiy of Daventry (twice), along with the Royal Family of Etheria, plus all of the Royals from the other islands before. He has limitless powers, it seems, or near limitless. What would be so hard about him teleporting ONE man, Graham, to help save his King?

As to Alexander being his Master and not Graham, we're shown in KQ6 that whoever simply grabs possession of the lamp is Shamir's master. All Cassima would have to do is give Graham Shamir's lamp and Graham could proclaim himself (temporarily) Shamir's master.

As to Shamir being elsewhere, he's right in the bedroom when Graham leaves.

The real answer is probably that it would be too easy.

Actually, now that I think of it, it'd be pretty funny if Shamir was like one of those overly talkative taxi drivers... :P

Anyway, maybe Shamir just wanted to stay close to his master in case there was something he could do to help?
I guess it's one of those things you just have to handwave as being too convenient for the hero. (Why don't they just fly an eagle over Mount Doom, etc.)

You try to give people a teaser, and they just gloss right by it.  ::)

I imagine Graham would rather have Shamir put his efforts towards helping the twins, if he could. But, that said, just because Shamir was there when he left doesn't mean he stayed there. Again, maybe you'll find out what he's been up to soon.  :suffer:

(and yeah, from a puzzle standpoint, it really would've been too easy!)

that would also mean that Shamir would have had to be Graham's companion and move him from isle to isle as Graham needed. Yes, he could have sent him to the Isle of the Sacred Mountain, but how would have him gone from there to Mist, and from there to whatever other place he needed?

True, plus Shamir doesn't have infinite allegiance to Graham. I'm satisfied with that explanation.

The same reason that Hassan goes on and on about running a business and needing to get paid, but won't accept a big bag of money until Graham proves he's king of Daventry.   :suffer:

True, but last time I checked, Alexander and Jollo were the only ones who knew where Shamir's lamp was. They were conspiring against Alhazred. I don't think Alexander would carry the lamp around with him or keep it out in the open if he knew it would be so easy for Shamir to switch his allegiance. There was no telling whether or not Cassima is even in possession of Shamir's lamp, there was only indication to Shamir being Alexander's genie. Alexander didn't know he was going to fall into a coma, so he probably didn't prepare by giving his lamp to Graham. Thus, Shamir is still under Alexander's command.

I'm sure he would tell his Queen and wife. And if Jollo knew, Jollo was there, so he could've said, "It's in such and such" location.

It's a stretch, I just think Shamir wouldn't swap back and forth between masters. Besides, Katie insinuated (or rather suffered) that Shamir had his own agenda. Best to just wait for an explanation than to speculate all day long.

Perhaps this is why Graham needs to interact with Jollo (as in the new screenshot)?  It wouldn't be too much of a stretch and it does make sense.
