It was also of a higher resolution than the original release, and also featured the longer version of the intro with full voice acting.  There have been several versions of the opening though, such as the silent one, and the one with cut dialogue, and apparently one with a very crudely drawn ship, although I'm yet to see this one.

That's not true.  Just the dialogue portraits and icons are higher resolution--the rest of the game, including the intro, is exactly the same as the DOS CD-ROM version.  The original DOS Floppy version had a shortened version of the intro, but it DID have voice acting---but it was just for the intro, and it wasn't Robbie Benson as Alexander--just some generic voice actor (probably one of the programmers.)  Valanice and Cassima had generic actors for the intro in the DOS Floppy version as well.

Well it does have a different version of the Sierra logo intro, with the Half Dome photo morphing into Green logo, IIRC.

It actually wasn't 'shorter' per se, it had a longer cut and pan around the palace. You actually get to see the entire palace room, plus the door at the front of the hall. Pacing was quite a bit different. The ship based scenes were more primitive though, basically cutouts. Didn't have good water effects.  There are actually slightly different lines.

Now if you played the game in EGA, there were actually more lines of description than in the cutscenes, but no artwork I think.

The Amiga and Mac introductions were a bit different too.

The mac version was more or less like the CD version, but had some weird additions to the credits with like a 3D style clip art letters.

Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

What I found really annoying about KQVI (at least the Windows version) is that it wanted to "update" QuickTime player to a MUCH earler version. :P

Hmmm---it doesn't just autodetect the later version on your computer and skip that part of the install?  Odd.

Oh man I remember having that issue - if you had a newer version than what it was looking for it wasn't capable of recognizing that and you literally had to uninstall your current version and install an older one.
