Well, Baggins, you and I won't see eye to eye on special editions. That's something of a given.  :suffer: I had some ideas to toss at them, and I am pretty good with documentation.

I'm pretty sure the VGA TSL is meant to make fun of TSL (which if you read the thread about it on the AGS forums, does indeed seem very clear).

At least most remakes try to bring something new and original to the table. This one...yeah, not so much!

I'm more amused by it than anything though. :)

Ya, I think its parody at the most.
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. Even a parody has to have something original to it, to mock whatever it is. This doesn't seem to do that. So... it's an even bigger failure as a parody.

Have you read his "behind the scenes stuff", its full of mocking material :p...

Can't say that I have....was that in the "demo" or elsewhere?

So, the parody is the behind the scenes stuff and the game is just a waste of the devs time?

It's on the website. He mocks the graphics, the lack of puzzles, the narrator, and "bugs and crashes" in episode I. Also notice the fake title he crossed out, Barbie goes to something or other.

The demo even works as a parody in a way, because there are "no puzzles", even less than episode I, lol. It kind of parodies the fact that pointed out by some critics that say that so far TSL hasn't created anything new and just reuses stuff from KQ6. So in a way it exagerates perceived 'problems' with episode I.

I'm still not sure how serious this thing is going to be taken. Until we start seeing his interpretation of the original scenes in Episode I, and what not.

QuoteI would love to know about the pre-history of Daventry. What were Daventry stone-agers like? Did they have magic, or were they just regular hunter-gatherer sorts?

There's three of them, they live in Tamir, and share a single eyeball between them.
You're not being serious, are you?* I thought Lorelei's question was really interesting, and you seem to be brushing it off like it's just a joke. :(

Anyway, the question I asked at the start of this thread was "what kind of kq fangame would YOU like to play/make?" I don't know why nearly everyone is posting games that have already been made or are being made by other people.

*and if you are, how can the witches be stone-agers if they're living at the same time as Graham's family and are using a metal cauldron? ???

Honestly, it would be a massive pain in the rear to accomplish, but I had the idea for Quest Cross, a KQ/SQ crossover. Basic idea is that the people who became the Xenonians and the Serenians were two groups that made an uneasy alliance and Withdrew to the same universe.  The anchors for the Multiverse are a pair of towers - one on the planet Serenia (where Daventry's located), the other on Xenon.

While these groups made a temporary pact to survive, tensions between the mad science Xenonians and the magic-using Serenians came to a head in a great war. It ended and the towers vanished. Over time, each forgot about the other...for the most part.

Now, there's a rare planetary alignment coming up in several days, the towers have reappeared, Vohaul has subverted a large faction of Star Con fleet, and the Black Cloak is making their move across Serenia. Those who control the Towers control the past and future of the multiverse.

All that stands in their way? Daventry's royal family and three renegade Xenonians - an ambassador, a soldier, and the janitor.

Planet Serenia?

Didn't we have this converstion before  :suffer: :suffer: :suffer: It's Daventry or Earth, LOL But I suppose if you are writing your own fan fiction you can choose whatever (it just seems to me if you are going to base info off of companion, you should at least try to remain consistent with it heh heh).

Hmm, you should check out Space Quest Omnipedia, Space Quest is our future according to the Spears' Space Quest Companion (and a few references throughout the games) ;)

http://spacequest.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline

There is a quote in SQ6 that says many of the humanoids in the universe evolved from Earth humans originally. Thus it explains the humans of Xenon (btw they are called humans in the games most of the time). Roger Wilco in the companion explains that Earth at some point in our future will colonize the universe, and Xenon is one of those Colonies. Roger can trace his lineage back through hundreds to thousands of generations of 'Roger Wilcos' back to first Roger Wilco who lived on Earth.

BTW, your story awefully like oh, the The Longest Journey (and Dreamfall). That was essentially how the two worlds split from each other, into its multiverse. But it was connected by a single tower, in a place between the worlds, IIRC. Though portals could open up anywhere and allow the two worlds Arcadia and Stark to bleed into each other.

Great game if you haven't played it. Anyone who likes KQ should enjoy it, just be warned its got a few adult themes, and there is language.

I don't have the SQ companion, so I was looking at the Space Quest Omnipedia and attempting to work with the existing holes.  ::) Well, that, and attempting to explain the copious in-jokes.  ;D

The planet name? Well, "The planet of Daventry" didn't seem to work. So, pick the name of the alleged Withdrawal site. To give you more of a case of the vapors, I went in for the AGD timeline and backstory. The "canon" game being the report Graham sent home to Gervain as misdirection until he could confront the jerk face to face. The reasoning is that we would get a solid counterpart to Vohaul, and the curse hanging over Graham the way Space Quest 12 looms over Roger.

The setup would be three teams:

Graham and Beatrice in the Space Quest 12 era Daventry...which is arguably worse than Space Quest 12 Xenon. Survive, escape, find a way to prevent this from happening.

Roger and Alexander: Stay in the present, but get thrown halfway across the galaxy. They have to get back to known space to alert the Confederation. This combination was picked because...well, how do you spend the first third of King's Quest 3? Janitorial work for the Boss From Hell. That, and both of them have quite a bit to learn about the role of hero. (Setting it between KQ5 &KQ6, but after SQ6)

Stellar and Rosella: They get tossed to the Great War between Xenon and Serenia. Queen Arcada of Xenon (yes, the ship was named for her) and Legenimor of Daventry want to negotiate peace, but radicals in both parties are blocking the attempts. In particular, Prince Morgeilen wants the Xenonians wiped out and plans to unleash a secret weapon during the treaty negotiations. Unfortunately, the women discover that someone has already interfered with the timeline. Morgeilen is using technology that hasn't been invented yet. They have to cut off the source, then stop the bomb.

Well if you were going by Space Quest in-jokes, Daventry is (note how Hoyle I basically took this route as well);

Unfortunately you missed half of Gervain's story. We learn later in the King's Quest Companion that Gervain became a mushroom farmer, after he was fired from his position as prime minister much later, after events of KQ3, after his suggestions to sacrifice maidens to the three-headed dragon, LOL.

I've seen a crew Magic Mirror that wants to tackle KQ4, and possibly do a "remix" like AGD did with 2. It's hard to tell the status of the project, though, as the boards still have some activity, but the blog's out of date. I'd totally volunteer to help with software testing or writing there.
I am a mod on their forums but beyond that I know nothing.

They have programmers and background artists.  their main need as far as I know is sprite artists.  they really need good sprite artists.

Now see, I don't understand that.  Spriting isn't difficult, it's just tedious and boring as s***.  ;)  Anyone good enough to do a quality Sierra-style background should easily be able to do sprites, provided they have the patience to actually crank them out.  :)

So maybe they don't have anybody with the patience... (or the commitment). Personally, I have no artistic talent whatsoever. :-\

yeah.... I think they have 1 sprite artist.  they are making stuff but it is taking forever.  no notable progress recently as far as I know.

I think eventually the game will come out though.  some day.
