If you don't have the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions I suggest you get them.

These are both really excellent - I liked what these expansions added to Oblivion more than what the expansion for Fallout 3 added to that game.  They have excellent additional plot and characters, and you can come away from both with some great gear as well.

The plot of Shivering Isles is just.... beyond incredible. It's rare for an expansion to something so universe-changing to the lore as Shivering Isles does at the end there.

Unfortunately, my PS3 ended up with my ex before I could finish Knights of the Nine! :(

For the moment, I'm going to work on progressing through the Mage's Guild, doing some modding, and beating sidequests.

What did you think of Fallout 3's expansions then? I get that you're comparing the two, but to get a better perspective, did you not like Fallout 3's expansions?

I did still like FO3's expansions, just for the most part they felt to me like, "Look here's more stuff for you to kill and a bit of storyline" while Oblivion's expansions felt more like, "Here's all new stuff for you to fight, lots of new items, and major storyline expansion."  Particularly with the Knights of the Nine expansion - it incorporated stuff all over the existing map.  I still liked FO3's expansions plenty, both games are fantastic in my opinion and I'm REALLY looking forward to New Vegas.  I just liked the integration of Oblivion's expansions more.

And I hope that New Vegas is more stable than FO3 - that game locked up on me more than any other game I've had on PS3 and that's probably part of the reason I didn't like it quite as much as Oblivion in some ways.

Ahh, I got ya. For me, I just liked how different the expansions were for Fallout 3. While the game was good, I felt the storyline lacking. I thought it was interesting that Operation: Anchorage felt like an infiltration mission for Call of Duty, and that The Pitt made you decide on a very twisted moral decision. I agree, that no expansion really added anything to the actual game (except for Broken Steel), but I still felt like the expansions were a break from the main game.

There's talk that Bethesda is working hard on a new project. I don't know if it'll be another Elder Scroll's game, but I'm eagerly waiting for an update.

I really need to get Fallout 3 sometime. But I haven't seen the GOTY edition in a long time. And when I did it was just too expensive.

kindofdoon

I'm thinking of purchasing it as well because of how much Oblivion impressed me.

If you do, beware of the VATS system.

If you're planning to play it on PC they have it on Steam for relatively cheap I think.

The GOTY edition is still out there at most big name retailers, and it's STILL $59.99 USD.  I have been holding off getting that game for AGES because I was waiting for the price to drop on the GOTY edition, but just the other day I finally broke down and got the original release version, which is only $19.99.  $40 difference is just not worth it at all for a few expansions.  Seriously.  Besides, you can still get them on Xbox Live if you want them, and you can pick and choose the best ones that way, too.  I say get the original version.

MusicallyInspired

Yeah. Plus considering the reviews of people (even here) that have said that the Oblivion expansions were better executed than the Fallout ones...I suppose I can wait a while for them.

Isn't that optional?

Yeah, I'm just saying to avoid it at all cost. It sucks the fun out of the game.

Speaking of (nothing in particular), I found this link that has a very interesting article. It's a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt, but simultaneously, tell everyone you know about it.

Awesome news, I already heard some whispers about it. Definitely a must-have when it comes out.

If you haven't played Morrowind, you should give that a shot as well.

crayauchtin

As I said, I like all the Elder Scrolls games (actually, that's not fair as I never played Arena or Redguard... but it's a safe bet I'd like them too). However, that said, I liked the game play in Oblivion the absolute best. I wish they would remake all of them with that engine! :P

How good is Morrowind in comparison to Oblivion? Does it stand well on its own?

Morrowind is also a great game -- as I said, I like the gameplay in Oblivion a bit better (primarily because it makes things like alchemy much easier). But, Morrowind is still a fantastic game and it absolutely does stand on its own!

Elder Scrolls V eh?  I'm getting that when it comes out.

crayauchtin

SO EXCITED FOR THAT! This series really gets better every game!

I had heard a rumor that Bethesda might be cooking up an MMO too. If it's an Elder Scrolls MMO, I am SO FREAKING THERE!
