[NON-ISSUE]Installation issues - please help (Category: Misc)

Hi,
Am new to this site...but not new to the Kings Quest series - which I played with serial addiction many years ago.  So imagine my delight to stumble upon 'The Silver Lining' this evening .....and then not be able to download it.
Admittedly I am not the most computer literate ....but provide the following details for my computer in case a white knight out there can provide a remedy for me to try.

Toshiba Notebook - Vista
Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 @2.10GHz
Memory (RAM) 4.00GB
32-bit Operating System

Sound,video and game controllers:
ATI HDMI Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio
TOSHIBA USB DVB-T/Analog Hybrid Tuner

Display adaptors:
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4600 Series


When downloading game (run or save) it stalls at either 3.45MB (1%) or at 29.5MB (9%).
e.g.  TSL-EP1.msi from files-27-181.gamezu.de
Was saving as a Windows Installer Package

It may just be that you're hiting a busy mirror when downloading.  Are you downloading the game from the link at http://www.postudios.com/blog/?page_id=4 ?  Also be sure that you don't have any download accelerators like GetRight turned on as those sometimes cause issues with the download.  Keep trying and you should get connected to a different download site.

Thanks Wilco - will give your  'download accelerators' suggestion a try, as I am still only getting up to 1% of installation before stalling.

Only to 1%?  That's extremely odd, what type of internet connection do you have and how long does it take you to get to that point?

Hi,
Thanks for your help.  I have been trying to download using the link as supplied above.  I am using a '3' mobile broadband (prepaid) dongle for internet access.  It takes ~4 mins to download to 3.45MB and then the files still appear to keep transferring .... but the download never progresses beyond 3.45MB.  I thought about it being the modem but it seemed strange that it always stops at the same point and I have not had any previous issues downloading.   Transfer rate for the download is at 12.8KB/sec.

I looked up google and it appears 'Vista' should recognise the extension (.msi) so am assuming it is because of the modem ?

Happy to hear any thoughts ... or this may not have a Silver Lining for me after all

Is there any place where you live where you can pick up free wireless internet for a bit to download the game?  It looks like it's timing out just because you have a low connection speed, so if there's a library or a fast food place (a lot of Burger Kings around here have it) with free WiFi maybe you could try connecting to their network for the download.  It's a 356 MB file so at that rate it'd take you all day to download the full program anyway.

the game isn't that atough, but trust me... when you are done you will go insane having to wait for the next episode.
