I was looking through the archives, and it seemed to me that forum activity was much higher back in the "Dark" and "Silver" Ages than it is now.

(By forum activity, I mean the number of threads, responses, and active users.)

I've only been on the forums for a few months, so I was wondering if any veterans could comment on this.

The old-timers refer to it as the "Golden Days" of posting.  I, unfortunately, was not one of those Golden posters, but apparently when the project was new and everyone was full of fire for it, it was the best time of posting.  Makes me sad I wasn't part of it!

The Golden Age of posting...gosh, I remember that fondly. Met my husband here during that time :) Anyway, we had quite a few regulars (J-Roc, Racx, Kimmie, Alex, Say, Jafar, Jeysie, B'rrr, QuestingCharacter/cray, myself, just to name a few) who were on at all hours! And we just used the threads to chat back and forth ALL the time. I remember coming to the forums every time I sat down on the computer, just to catch up.

It's kinda weird, being thought of as an old-timer... XD

There were just a whole bunch of crazy threads anyone could just jump into...with the food fight, and the Jarada Knights, and the mangoes\bunnies war. There were lots of personal threads, threads for amusing conversations from the chatroom and IM chats. (Yeah, remember when we had a chatroom? XD)

And then there were the Weekly polls, the Woot and What The polls, the Freak and Creak polls...

And all of the wacky things going on in the Useless Conversation thread, and Moodyblues' thread (Where'd she go? She was cool :P )

On the other hand though, there were times when people got a little spammy. It hasn't been that way in a long time, but once in a while, it'd seem like people were just posting to bump up their postcount, and I didn't find it very fun. Still, it's just a footnote compared to all of the fun times. 8)

Ironically, I think that's around the time I started coming to the forums less, because there was just no way I could keep up!

And yea, that was at the time I was working on my graduation project, so I had lots of spare time. we had individual contests of who could post the most in a day and things like that or trying to get your name as last poster on the evrery thread on the first page.

Yeah--I also don't really like "contests" like that either, I'd rather be having fun chats or meaningful discussion going on, personally. Threads and competitions of that sort lose my interest quickly.

Haha, well now I've got mod/admin power! So I can tell you to keep your post count contest to one thread. ;)

Why did forum activity decline when the game finally approached the release stage? Seems kind of counter-intuitive.

Some of the team members who ran the forums had left at that point, and we were focusing more on getting the game done than having contests, etc, in the forums at the time. Plus forums have an ebb and flow on their own, and after you go a certain amount of time with no news or a game or updates, people will wander off, or they just plain get busy, etc.

I remember posting up to 50 posts a day when I first came here in 2003; things really were insane back then.  We used to have a lot of community-related activity on the forum way back then, and the posting got too insane for me at times, too!

Now that I've grown up and become more sane (!!!), I don't tend to post much in terms of "quick posts", but rather to add to a discussion or make a joke.

in our defense, posts were not meant to be spammy though, you had to contribute a little bit to a thread at least.

Not saying we should do that, but it is good to keep in mind if the occasion presents itself where Katie's presence is unwanted... *shifty*

How I yearn to have been part of those days!  I guess in eight years I can look back and be like, "Wow, I was only 21 when I started posting, that was ten years ago!  Time sure has flown!" Oh God, I'll be 31 by then...

Not everyone. Rosella and Deloria are around your age. I'm sure there are others, too.

Well, it's not weird to have other people be that age, it's just weird to imagine myself as a 31 year-old. :P  No offense meant, Snabbott! :)
