Read any good books lately? For those who would rather explore the worlds that only a novel could provide, or for those who need to catch up on the latest Bestseller, there is a thread with your name on it. Enjoy.  ;D

I just started reading Stephen Colbert's I Am America (And So Can You!). I heard a lot about it, and figured it'd be worth reading. I'm expecting it to be filled with the satirical comedy that Stephen Colbert is known for, and I'm not expecting to be enlightened in anyway. Still, gives me something to do while I'm waiting for news on TSL.

I might start reading 1984... I bought it for a high school project and ended up not needing it, so it's just sitting on my shelf collecting dust.

Finished Terry Goodkind's Wizard rules a little while ago. reading them all after eachother. liked it a lot except for that he has the urge to explain everything over and over again, which is nice if you read those books far apart, to refresh your memory, but when you read them all in a row it starts to begin annoying  :P

Not reading anything at the moment.

Reading? For Leisure? What's that?  :P I'm being silly. During school I don't have much time to read for fun since I'm reading textbooks all the time. Granted, it's interesting and has to do with my major, but it's not what I'd pick on my own.

Seen the tv show?

Not really reading anything atm, nor have I been for a couple months, which is unusual for me. Thinking of rereading the Homecoming Saga by Orson Scott Card though, picked up the entire series for really cheap awhile ago.

B'rrr

yea, I did see it.

Was pretty nice watch though it had some annoyances (O noes! the world as we know it is going to end, we have to hurry! but first lets help this little girl find her mother, help this old woman cross the street, help...).

also I watched the serie before reading the books (that was the reason I got to the books actually) so I never had the so common feeling many people have when noticing difference between tv serie (or movies) and their beloved books (or games). I did liked the books more then tv serie but thought the latter was very entertaining aswell, probably rewatch it in a year or so  :)

An Arthurian/Tristan and Isolde-era book called Twilight at Avalon.  I don't have much time to read, though, so I've been working on it for about a month.  Pretty good, though.  I like medieval fiction.

1984 is definitely worth reading.

My roommate, boyfriend & I love watching Legend of the Seeker. It's so funny and melodramatic! LOL. Funny enough, back in the day I tried to read the first book but didn't really like it.

I'm currently re-reading The Dresden Files series--on book 7, Dead Beat, right now.

Have you seen the show? Any good? We finished Pushing Daises and looked for a new show to watch on Netflix Instant Watch. It recommended the Dresdan Files, watched the first ep last night. Not sure if I want to continue with it or not.

King Arthur and vampires? :o

Sadly, I'm not reading anything right now - too much work. :(
I'm waiting for the next Wheel of Time book.

Speaking of classic books, I also highly recommend Fahrenheit 451.

Tess: The books are MUCH better. I read those first, then tried Netflixing the show and ugh. I couldn't stand it. Books are great, show is awful!

Also yay Pushing Daisies!

:P  No, no vampires.  Just regular old Isolde being reluctantly attracted to Tristan.

We had to read it on highschool I think, it was a nice story. I normally don't like obligatory reading though so most books i had to read i like less already regardless how it was written and what it was about just because i had no choice but to read them.

If you haven't already done so, I would recommend it giving it another try though, really great series

My exact problem came halfway through Book 1. Basically when....
Richard encounters the Mord Sith and gets broken by one of them. One, it was a little weird for high school me to read. And two, I just really do not like when a story does something SO severe like that and breaks the hero. It just ruined it for me and I couldn't maintain an interest in continuing to read the story. From what I've read some really weird stuff happens later on that sounds to me like it continues on the 'broken hero' kind of theme, anyways,
so in general, I prefer the silly melodramatic TV show's mood to what I read and understand about the books.

The "broken hero" thing is seriously what annoyed me about Stephen Lawhead's Byzantium. He's my absolute favorite author, but that book..... the hero starts out as a monk, goes on this quest (basically) and, yeah, okay a lot of bad stuff happens to him but then, he also gets made into a prince. But then he starts losing his faith because of what's happening to him -- even though worse stuff is happening to his friends (who, ps, got made into slaves, not princes). I had zero sympathy for him. A broken hero can be okay, if it's believable but if it's too sudden or too unsympathetic.

1984 is a great book.  Also, Boy's Life by Robert McGammon (I believe thats how you spell it) might be the greatest book I've ever read.  On the road by Jack Kerouac as well, anything about the beat generation is pretty interesting. Into the wild the book was similar in many ways.

I never got to read 1984 in school.  I should at some point.

I recently finished Magician: Master, am currently on Icewind Dale, and will start on Silverthorn and B&N's edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales soon.
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

I never read 1984 in school either. I actually wanted to read that book. The other book that I didn't read in school, but wanted to was The Great Gatsby. The only thing that I read in school that I actually appreciated was The Catcher in the Rye. What sucked was, the whole class had to analyze what they read.  ::)
