Maybe waltz, atec, and Cray should start a "SAVE GOG" foundation and have an online petition...?

In any case, we should wait until the 22nd for the announcement, whatever it may be.

It is pretty infuriating that DRM is such an issue these days.  Although I would gladly buy DRM games if it meant the return of GOG.

Glad I got Caesar III right before it shut down.

DRM is evil.  Especially in music.

I'm hoping it's just a badly pulled off marketing stunt... If they can officially announce the service going out of beta, adding more games and more incentives to use the service, I'll be so happy. All should be revealed on wednesday. Now we must simply wait...  :-\

I hope it's just a marketing ploy as well, though if it is, it might be looked down upon by a lot of people, because it really would be in poor taste. I receive e-mails from GOG all the time and have never gotten a notification that they would be closing soon. Plus, the icon that identifies their website (on the tab in Chrome, on the tab and next to the address bar in IE and Firefox) changed yesterday, which doesn't make a lot of sense if they were closing their doors for good (not accounting for a download service for games already purchased). It really does smell a little fishy, but we'll see.
One thing is for sure, though: if they really are closed, I'll be extremely ticked off, not at them, but at the fact that such a great idea (classic, DRM-free games legally purchasable) has vanished.

Lol! You have my sword!
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

I would love to do that for you all but I just don't have the time anymore  :(. With school and 2 jobs along with TSL, there just isn't enough hours in a day. It may come back on it's own. I know working with the internet and building class web pages, clean up is required sometimes to avoid the nasty crashes. it's ironic because I downloaded MoE a couple of days ago for the vista.

I'll gladly support anyone who wants to take up the Save GOG torch and give them advice on how to proceed.

I would do it, but I don't want to start until we are sure about it.

Absolutely. Nothing should be done until a formal, concrete announcement is made.

Update from GOG's site as of an hour ago:

"UPDATE 20.09.2010
First of all, we apologize everyone for the whole situation and closing GOG.com. We do understand the timing for taking down the site caused confusion and many users didn't manage to download all their games. Unfortunately we had to close the service due to business and technical reasons.

At the same time we guarantee that every user who bought any game on GOG.com will be able to download all their games with bonus materials, DRM-free and as many times as they need starting this Thursday.

The official statement from GOG.com's management concerning the ongoing events is planned on Wednesday. If you want to receive further information about GOG.com, please send an email to update_media@gog.com if you're a media representative or to update_users@gog.com if you're a user without a GOG account."

I just hope it's a good site overhaul. I already loved the interface. As a web design student, it was already VERY professional and well designed. Now, if they were to launch a desktop application (ala Steam) that may actually be a good idea. We will find out on Wednesday I believe, so we just gotta wait for now. Perhaps they'll announce iPhone compatible versions? Ok, so that's wishful thinking, but you can't stop me from dreaming big! lol In any case, I just hope that everything turns out ok for them. When I first heard about it, I thought it was too good to be true. Maybe one of the game companies out there complained or something. I have no idea. Maybe they're updating to include current gen PC games (doubtful, but stranger things have happened). Time will tell...  :-\
