For anyone who's interested in this game, I bring 10 minutes of footage that I think you'll enjoy. The first Bioshock was known for its storyline which revolved around the concepts of a utopia and the failure that stems from capitalism, communism, as well as religion. Bioshock Infinite's story revolves around the concepts of jingoism and xenophobia. I would also be so bold as to say Nazism, but I hope I don't offend anybody by bringing it up. The gameplay looks to be a major improvement to the first Bioshock, and the game is appearing to be a must-have whenever it is released. Enjoy the gameplay everybody.  ;D

I LOVE the way this game is setting up, the first two were great but honestly by the end of the second one the whole trapped underwater thing was starting to get a bit old, so I am super excited by everything I've been reading about this game.

The way I understand it, Bioshock 2 wasn't designed by Irrational Games (the ones who did the first Bioshock). But they are working on Bioshock Infinite. Irrational Games have also publicly exclaimed how they feel about "tacked-on" multiplayer and unnecessary DLC, which is making Bioshock Infinite all the more appealing, in my honest opinion.

Was...was that Stephen Russell? O_O
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

My favorite part was when he uses telekinesis to shoot the one guy with his own gun. Classic!

Look spectacular. I still need to play the first one. Might just skip the second one.

I've never played these games... was busy with Mass Effect at about the time they came out.  Maybe i'll look into them... they look great.

I would have to disagree with Ken Levine (the writer for the first Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite) when he said that Bioshock was not that good in hindsight. I can imagine, as the creator, he could be very critical of his own work, but Bioshock was spectacular. It really blew me away. Not only was the experience great, but the concept that the game was based on was incredible. I am even more blown away by the concept of Bioshock Infinite. He really outdid himself when he built Rapture, and now I'm convinced that Columbia will be just as amazing. I'm off to watch the video again.

I think Bioshock was good, but it left a lot to be desired. Free regeneration, ample ammo, simple hacking and free tonic/plasmid swapping took a lot of the survival/horror out of the game and left it feeling like it was missing something, especially when it was supposed to be a spiritual successor to System Shock 2 which did survival/horror much better.
Overall, Bioshock is fun, and the story, art style, music, plasmids and the ability to turn the Vita Chambers off kept it from being a waste of time, but it could have been much, much better.

Just got a hold of Bioshock. Playing through it now. It is creepy, but certainly not scary. At least not yet. I still have to play through the System Shocks. I used to own the first one on CD but it mysteriously disappeared....luckily they're both freeware now, right? Released by the authors or something?

Well, technically it's illegal to download them, I think. But since they're not on sale anywhere, I think it's perfectly okay to grab them off the internet.

There used to be links for them at Home of the Underdogs but that site went down a while ago. They've resurrected it and all the entries are back but the links don't seem to work anymore  :( You should be able to find a copies somewhere, though.

I agree that Bx isn't really scary. It's very atmospheric but never actually terrifying. (Well, apart from some very effective "monster closet" type moments.) I don't think it needs to be scary to be a great game, though. The fact they took such care and thought over the story (how many games feature a failed Objectivist utopia?) really sells it to me. I think that the character development system could have been better, though: it feels a bit like a playground, since you can swap anything out at any gene bank station, and you always have all the guns you've picked up. Whereas SS2 was much more tense and really sucked you in, because you were constantly wondering if you could keep that weapon which would take up more inventory slots and where your next precious upgrade-points should be spent.

I'm looking forward to Bx:I though. The gameplay footage is really breathtaking. And I love the way that both Elizabeth and Booker have real personalities: it's nice to play with and alongside real people, instead of the "Alright, Marine, blow those terrorists into next week!" figures we tend to see.

Unfortunately, no. Neither of the games are freeware, and it's unlikely that they will ever be. When LGS dissolved (:(), the rights to various parts of SS2 were scattered, and that probably includes the rights to some aspects of SS1 as well. SS2 is still one of the most requested games on GOG, though it's highly unlikely it will ever see the light of day.

There are new copies of SS1 still to be had on Amazon, though they're quite pricey for the game's age. There are also cheaper used copies of both on Amazon and eBay.

But then we'd just have to deal with them again next week. :P

Bioshock was the first person shooter I had played since... hmmm Doom? No, Half-Life!

I like it. I can't say I LOVED it, but I liked it. I loved the first 2 hours of the game. The atmosphere was incredible and it was certainly creepy. Then, it just became another first person shooter.

I haven't played the second one. I still have other games to go through.

Though the sequel got favorable reviews, it doesn't seem to have innovated with the gameplay significantly. I'm just going to wait for Infinite.
