I haven't played Season 3 yet (just finished 2, actually), but does this new interface require holding the mouse button down and dragging, or do you click and release and then drag?

It's Click-Hold-Drag--same as Tales.  Not my favorite control scheme, as I think I've made pretty clear at this point.  ;) hehe  But the keyboard controls work fine.

People don't want to click and click and click to move across a scrolling screen anymore. And neither do I.

Did Brandon just say he's not a person?
Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor...I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.

Wait... who the... fopmuffin... forum names please... *is also a Brandon... and is now a very confused Brandon* ...but then I guess Musically Inspired is kind of a long name... whatever... carry on...

Ugh. I'll probably be using the keyboard then, too.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't know there was a keyboard interface. :-[

Telltale's interface is a very tricky thing to talk about.

Here's the real reason why it exists: Close ups while in gameplay: getting rid of the very staging feeling of adventure games overall.

Now, if you have a close up where you get rid of the floor while in gameplay, you immediately negate a point and click interface unless you make it like in Sierra games, where you had to "Exit" close ups. But I don't really think that's what the Telltale designers were after.

They were simply after the ability to change the camera on you to make the game more cinematic. The stagy feeling of point and click just got in the way of that, so they first try to mandate the use of keyboard, and then they came up with a way to use the mouse to control the characters. Neither is perfect, but, in all honestly, I have experienced the games without the camera work and more stagy feel and the current way, and I can tell you, this is much better (as much as I hate the walking as well).

That makes a lot of sense.  :)  I hadn't thought of the trickiness of having to deal with cinematic closeups where the floor is not visible.  On the other hand, I can't immediately think of any moments in any of the Telltale games where the player is in control while the floor is not visible.  Can you think of an example?

Not in Monkey Island or S&M off the top of my head. I know in Wallace and Gromit, in the house there were a lot of those. Weren't there a couple of cameras like that at the beginning of Sam&Max S3?

Guys, the click & drag scheme was an add-on that was demanded by fans because they didn't want the keyboard controls lol. The keyboard controls are the primary controls for the game. The click & drag is afterthought. I never use it.

When I say "people" I really mean "most people". I was just including myself into that group as many times I don't.

I'm going to turn the discussion back to what I was originally going to ask. Normally, I try to keep the discussion consistent, but I feel entitled seeing as this is my thread.  :P

So I'm still deciding as to whether or not I should get Devil's Playhouse (or Sam and Max Season 3) for the PS3 or the PC. I tried the controls for both, and feel like they are both really gimmicky. Nonetheless, the controls are outfitted for a console. Even when you click-and-drag for the PC, an analog stick appears. When you get into conversations, a Mass Effect/Alpha Protocol conversation wheel pops up. I prefer the first two seasons for the PC, but is it unorthodox to then get the third season for a console? Maybe it's just my inner PC fanboyism talking, but I'm eager to get the game (I'm a Sam and Max fanboy as well) and don't want to regret which platform I get it on.  :-[

The only other benefit of getting the game on the PS3 is the fact that I'll get a load of trophies from each episode, and will get a copy of Braid for free. The decision should be obvious, but I'm curious as to what others think.

Getting the season on PS3 might make the game a bit easier as there's no pixel hunting. But it's the same experience and you get an extra toy on the first ep on the PS3 that you don't get on PC.

I have Strong Bad's Game For Cool People on my Wii, as well as Sam and Max and Monkey Island on my PC.  I had a good time with Strong Bad on my Wii.... I dig Tell Tale.  I'm glad they're around, and getting good licenses.  I just hope they continue to make good games.

Telltale is my favorite game company at the moment.  I will continue to support them by buying their games whenever I have the free time to play them (which sadly, is only every few months.)

I got a PC demo for 8-bit Is Enough a while ago, and I enjoyed it; would you recommend purchasing a full episode?

I was a bit skeptical of Strong Bad's myself considering the graphics. I think part of what made it a good game is you didn't need quality graphics to make it good and the drawing style was part of it's charm. Once you start playing you can't stop, I used a free ep code to pick up ep 1 and was hooked, I got the whole season as it was on discount. I found it very addictive and every Telltale fan has to play through these at least once. Telltale likes to use allot of in-jokes in their games and some things more that made sense to me after playing these games.

Telltale is overrated.

Everyone's a critic!

You know who's over-rated, for real?  Jane Jensen.  I think Gray Matter looks like a pretentious pile of monkey dung.

As for the StrongBad Game, kindofdoon, I love it.  If you're a fan of Homestar Runner (which I assume you are) you should love it.  It's funny and fun to play.  All the characters are there, all the humor is there.  It's pretty fun.

Well, now you're just courting controversy!  Though I tend to agree with you.  I like KQ6, but I do think it is often over-rated.

My favorite games are KQ5 and KQ7, KQ4, and KQ1SCI All the simplest, easiest and most light hearted. KQIV has dark moments but they aren't overdone like in KQ6 (Zombie with Butcher knife sticking out of it's back on the Isle of the Dead, anyone)?

Thanks for the advice, Bt. I'll look into when I can unbury myself from the heap of games I still need to play.
