Ok no TL;DR or shortened version here.  I want you to read it all or not read it at all.

I joined the forum 2-3 years ago (I really don't remember).  MoE remake, king's quest freak, homeschooled with way too much spare time, and also 12 years old.  Wait what?  That's right.  I wasn't 15 or 16, I was 11 or 12.  The reason I said I was 17 on my birthday last year... was that, for one thing, this is the internet.  Why should age matter?  I thought it would be fun to be a few years older than I actually was.  also I was still working on the MoE remake.  Why would you take a 13 year old seriously for a project like that?  I know I probably wouldn't.  So yeah...I didn't think it would matter.  Then it also came in handy, when the C&D came around, that I was 17/18 (my birthday was in the middle of it) rather than 13/14)  I feel that I did a pretty good job with my contributions, but I  didn't want any age bias going on.  I am glad I did the website and was a part of the save TSL team.  I don't know if it would have worked if you had known I was 13/14.

I feel really bad about this, perhaps more than I need to.  I could have kept going with it, I didn't even actively have to say anything untrue about myself. (I really don't remember any other lies I have said on here)
I will still be around just as much, and I will not let my age get in the way.  You guys accepted me here and I had fun here when I was 18, so why not when I'm 14?  I will still act the same and be the same person.

About the Wine support and everything... that will keep going as well.  I still know just as much about linux, and will still be able to support everyone just as well.  I understand if you don't want to listen to me, but I am still just as right as I was when I was 4 years older.

I am really sorry about this, but I will not let it get in the way of anything.  I am 14, but don't worry about it.  I am still the exact same person and I will still behave the same way.

Very sorry,
atec

I'm 13 right now, if it makes you feel any better...  :suffer:

EDIT: Age doesn't matter. You're a fan of the series just like anyone else. I don't see why this should be a problem. Though it is true. Others do not take you seriously if you're a child.

it's not a problem at all.

I feel a lot better now that I've posted it though, somehow.

Huh. Well, atec, I can honestly say I never actually looked up how old you are on here, my guess at your age had nothing to do with the numbers but only with how you compose yourself on the boards here. And I have to say you show a considerable amount of maturity and talent for a person of any, moreso for someone of your actual age, so bravo sir, and we really do appreciate all the help you've given us both on the C&D, with the Mac/Linux support, and in being an all around nice guy here. :)

You're still the same Atec the forum knows and respects regardless of your age.

Age doesn't really matter. Maturity does, and unlike age, it doesn't come with a handy number associated with it. Plus, it's multidimensional just to complicate things further. :P

Age in no way invalidates or justifies a person's behavior. Unfortunately, because age does come with a handy little number, it is often erroneously taken as a metric for maturity. One need only confer with fraternity row at any college to see this fall flat on its face.

So, don't give it another thought. :) It would seem you're a rather impressive 18 14 yr. old. :P (see, that's the only difference)

Hear here. The fact that the post which announced that your age is 14 is considerably more mature and skilfully worded than those of most 20-year-olds on teh interw3bs is proof enough that there's no reason to take you any less seriously than we would were you older.

Maturity matters more then age. Heck there is probably 8 year olds with a higher maturity level then some 30 year olds.

It's nice to see this forum is full of mature people rather than immature grown-ups. ;D

No problem, Atec.  I was around your age when I played the original KQs.  When you get older, you do get wiser due to experience, and sometimes views change. But maturity is something you can have very young, though how its expressed its modified. The core is what matters. But, just out of curiousity, how did you originally get into kings quest? I was so young when I played them, how did you find out about them?

And also, I have many friends in 20s, 30s, and 40s who might be straight A students or have great jobs, But are emotionally and common sense wise dumb as a brick.  I have a friend right now with a 120 IQ, Multiple scholarships, straight A doesnt study, but whose goal in life i just to have babies. I wont get into details,
but his "surrogate" mother he met on the internet in one night. I wont even tell you the legal problems he's having right now in terms of what his actions have now produced . Not to mention a HOST of other issues. SERIOUS issues. I give you props for being as young as you are and participating in a project like this.

Surprise, surprise.
There's nothing I have to say that hasn't already been said, so I'll just say that I agree with everything that has been said thus far. :)
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

All I can say is thanks everyone.

and I will answer the one question that I noticed:
QuoteBut, just out of curiousity, how did you originally get into kings quest?
My dad found KQV in our attic I think.  This was when I was 7 or 8.

Then I got KQ6 and 7, played the 1-3 remakes, and somehow came across a CD-R with KQ1-4 originals on it.

Haha, oh my gosh, atec, that's so awesome that you were able to pull that off!  I applaud you, good sir.

For the record, as everyone else has said, you've carried yourself with more maturity than several adults ever could, and you have actually gained more respect in my eyes for being such a wise, mature forumer.  Thank you for coming clean, even though you didn't hurt anyone in so fibbing.  You're still the same awesome atec. ;)

It wouldn't have hurt you at all with SaveTSL. You took on a huge load when I left and you carried it well, better than me. Age is only an number, and with all the work you did to help bring back this project, you have shown to be a loyal friend who would stand up for anyone. *hugs* You have a gold star in my book.  ;)

crayauchtin

First of all, to be honest there's very few people whose ages I know on these forums, so really.... *shrugs*

Secondly, agism is pretty rampant on the Internet. You are not the first person I've known online to do this sort of thing because of a fear of being disrespected because of your age.

Third of all, all the stuff you did for Save TSL was phenomenal and anybody who gives you crap about your age obviously has no idea how much you took on for us and for all of the TSL community. You might only be 14 years old, but you are way more mature than that.

Also, I can't say anything bad about you because you're helping me with Wine. :P

Hey atec123,

I don't usually check people's age on forums, so no need to apologize. I'm glad KQ has reached a new generation of gamers... and a Linux user no less!

Actually, Doon was correct the first time.  It's connoisseur with an O.  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/connoisseur

It may come from the French root, but it's not spelled the same.  ;)
