Quote from: dark-daventry on October 19, 2010, 10:12:05 PMMaybe it's just me, but I guess I like the series that are always looked down on. Frontier wasn't bad in my eyes. I quite enjoyed it. If I had to rank the series, I would most definitely put Tamers first, but I'm not sure what I would put second. I guess Adventure 02 would go second and frontier third, but thats not set in stone.
Adventure 02 is my least favorite, I think. I didn't realize it until just recently when I watched it all the way through with English subs, but a lot of it just doesn't make sense. Dagomon's Ocean, a potentially great concept, felt tacked on, everybody's slapping everybody else, evolutions (besides armor evolutions) were introduced in very dull "Oh, I guess I'll suddenly evolve now" ways, Oikawa uses the wrong card to open the gate, etc. etc. And BelialVamdemon...a truly terrific setup for an epic battle wasted on the horribly anti-climactic ending.
Not to mention I never got to see Taiora or Takari realized. :'(
Of course, it had its highlights, too. Angewomon and LadyDevimon's catfight part 2, WarGreymon and BlackWarGreymon duking it out and the World Tour.
Adventure 02 wasn't completely bad, but it certainly could have been much better.
Quote from: dark-daventry on October 19, 2010, 10:12:05 PMVoyager isn't all that great compared to DS9, in my eyes. Don't get me wrong, it was most certainly good, but not my favorite. I like DS9 the best for a lot of reasons. One of them is definitely Captain Sisko. I LOVE SISKO! He has such power in his voice. DS9 is a different sort of star trek. It's a break from the formula, and I like that. It takes place on a space station, the captain is torn between his duty with starfleet and his role as the Emmissary of the prophets, and the whole Gamma Quadrant thing. I don't want to spoil anything, but the series really does touch on religion in a lot of ways, and it's an interesting take. Religion is always a touchy subject, but I think DS9 really did it pretty well. Now go watch DS9!
I remember reading somewhere that DS9 was basically a soap opera in space, which turned me off to it a little. Didn't discourage me from watching it, because I will when I can, but I'm hoping it'll end up being more substantial than that.
Quote from: dark-daventry on October 19, 2010, 10:12:05 PMAnd yes, they did condense it into four volumes. Adventure was in five, and Adventure 02 was in two.
Adventure 02 in two?! Holy crap. I can't wait to see how they managed that one.
Quote from: dark-daventry on October 19, 2010, 10:12:05 PMThe best digimon manga in my opinion though is V-Tamer. I love it. It's basically an alternate universe prequel to Adventure, I think. It's been a while since I've read it (I intend to re-read it and actually get to finishing it this time).
That sounds intriguing. Definitely will be checking it out when I have a little more time on my hands.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

I suppose you could say DS9 is a soap opera in space, but I love it.

As for Adventure 02, it's been some time since I've actually watched it. I should probably get back to that sometime soon...

That's not to say it's bad, of course. Soap operas are usually pretty shallow (at least from what I've heard), but they don't have to be. Perhaps DS9 is the only good soap opera. ^_^

Yeah. You may see what I'm talking about; I rewatched it subbed because I heard people talking about all of the weirdness in it and I didn't believe them, but when I watched it again, I noticed it a lot.

AKA, a space opera. :)

I don't know if that could apply to DS9--from what I've heard, that's more of just a drama. But 'space opera' is a genre term. I've heard it applied to Star Wars, actually.

Wow.  I have too much time on my hands finding this stuff.  Anyway, there's an anime reviewer, JesuOtaku, working on a Digimon retrospective, and she's done a great job so far.  Here's the link to Adventure:

http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/ir/jo/jar/27539-digimon-adventure-part-one

I have no idea when she'll get 02 up.  I'll post the link when she does.
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Aww!  You have the Sword of Hugging +3!  All of your attacks deal affectionate damage!

Enchantermon

Loading them now. Man, they're huge. Thanks for the link. :)

I'm guessing it's that he has a shortage of time.

Each episode is only 22 minutes, though. One 22-minute segment of the day isn't that much of an investment, imo. People with families may not be able to do this, but while I was in college and away from my family, I would watch anime while I ate in order to make the best use of my time, since a meal for me usually takes about a half-hour anyway.

So, I've been thinking of this for a while, and I've discussed it with the PR team, and I think I'm going to do it now. I think you as a community have a right to know, and I feel that this community is mature enough to handle the truth. That truth being that I am gay. The reasons I am coming out on the forum are two-fold. One, I want to encourage anyone to feel free to express themselves openly, whether they're gay, major science geeks, or just plain awesome. And two, I want to be able to express myself more openly on these wonderful forums. Normally, I am not the kind of guy that believes the whole world needs to know of my sexuality, but I feel a commitment to the community. You've stuck with us, the whole team, through thick and thin. Hell, before I joined the team, I stuck with them no matter what happened. And I feel you have a right to know about myself in a little more detail in return. In this quickly changing world, homosexuality is on a fast track to becoming widely accepted, but there are still those out there that oppose it. I believe in freedom of speech as well as freedom of expression, and I welcome everyone's personal opinion. I don't want these forums to become a battleground for anything, be it personal matters or political matters. These forums should be a place for everyone to come together and put whatever prejudices they may have aside. We're gathering together as a community for one reason: To support Phoenix Online Studios. I am a fan and an employee of Phoenix Online Studios who just happens to be gay. I'm proud of who I am and I'm proud of this community. You've all accomplished something I honestly didn't think could ever happen in my lifetime. You've revived the King's Quest genre, you fought two corporate juggernauts and won. That's no easy feat. And I was right there along with you. We all come from different walks of life. Each forum member here is unique in every way. We're all individuals who gathered together for a cause. Some are religious, some are gay, some are teachers, some are college students... The list goes on and on. The point is, we all gathered together despite what makes us different. We found a common ground, a common belief. The fact that I'm gay, I'm sure, will not change this. But I feel you deserve to know. That being said, I hope this doesn't change anything. I'm still the same old dark-daventry that you all know and (hopefully) love. I'm coming out to you all so all forum members can feel free to express themselves no matter what. I am taking the first step. Will anyone follow with me?

Well, as long as we're being honest...
Since I'm a Christian, I have my own views on homosexuality based on the views of God presented in the Bible. That said, I don't think any less of you because of it. I'm still glad that you are a part of the community and the team, and your lifestyle won't change that. :) Everyone on the team has been doing tremendous work, so if their personal lives contain things I don't agree with, that isn't going to affect my opinion of them or the work that they do. This includes you. :)

Thanks, and thanks for the honesty. My best friend is Christian, and she's totally down with my sexuality. And because she's Christian, I try to be open minded about religion in general. I'm not that religious, but I respect other religions, so long as they respect me. I'll be honest and say I have a little beef with The Westboro Baptist Church, but they aren't strictly anti-homosexual. Their anti-america. They protest the funerals of American soldiers. Have some respect for the men and women who defended our country! Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the bible tell people to be respectful of one another? I try not to engage in religious arguments, and I feel that religion and politics should remain separate. Discussions on religion and politics, in any capacity, have a tendency to get out of hand. I think, as long we can keep the discussions respectful, they can exist on this forum. And I think Cesar mentioned that Corridor 9 would make us all think about religion and science differently. I'm totally looking forward to corridor 9!

Yeah, those forum members that are friends with me on Facebook probably already know, but I figure it's time that I posted something on this forum. And now that I'm out, I can openly squeal about the following: I LOVE the TSL Alexander. Obvious reasons, I'm sure...

And I'm glad to be here too! This is such a great community and the team is amazing to work for. Everyone who works for POStudios is so nice, and there is such a positive energy among the team members.
