So, a lot of forum members, and even some team members, are currently in college (including me). And we all know how stressful it can be. So, I've decided to create Daventry University, where all forum members can come and rant and rave about college all they want! Talk about your finals, your midterms, your projects, whatever crosses your mind! The only thing I ask is that this thread, like all others on this forum, remain family friendly and respectful of differing opinions. So, welcome to Daventry University, the ONLY university for clinically insane fans of Phoenix Online!

I'll begin with the following: The first order of discussion, that I think a lot of college kids can relate to right now, is finals. I can't possibly be the only one who hates 'em, right?

Lol, the University of Phoenix Online is already a real thing.

My parents thought that's what I was referring to when I announced that I was working for Phoenix Online, actually.

DU. Daventry University. ;)
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

Thank you. How could I have NOT thought of that?

I can't change the name of the thread.... Sometimes I wonder if it's a power Mods don't possess... Can either a global mod or admin see if they can change the name of the thread?

You're welcome. :) Sometimes it's the simplest solutions that elude us the most. After playing adventure games so much, I've learned this quite a lot. :P

That's indeed true... A perfect example is my class just the other day actually. My teacher plays Jeopardy with us quite a lot, and one of the questions was worded kind of weirdly, but it was in the easier categories. The question was something like "this is the term for securing your information online" or something of that sort. The entire class got stumped, but I put forth the idea of Privacy. Apparently, that was the correct answer. So just the way things are worded can also throw you for a loop...

In any event, I'm hoping to figure out how to change the name of this thread... Then again, I'm doing like fifty other things, which include preparing for the VGAs in a half hour (at which point I will become non-responsive to outside forces, responding only to the prompts of the tv), attempting to do a final for my design class (and failing rather miserably if I do say so myself), starving for food, etc etc. So I'm really multi tasking right now...

Not in college anymore, but I do vividly remember finals.  Though I never really studied much either.  My friends in grad school hated me on test day because I was the guy who never really took notes, didn't study much, and still torched the exam.  Then again, I actually found grad school easier than undergrad.  Weird.

Anyway, the one memory of finals week that stands out in my mind was when my friends and I decided to just relax.  So there was a nice pancake breakfast.  And after that we all dragged chairs out to the dorm porch, brought all manner of inebriating beverages out with us, and just relaxed and laughed and forgot about finals.  Although a couple of us did delight in pointing out that it was finals week to everyone passing by.  One of my friends, who didn't really know how to enjoy in moderation, took to yelling to random people, "What are you doing out here?  It's finals week!  Why aren't you studying?  WHY AREN'T YOU STUDYING?  IT'S FINALS WEEK!"  As the evening went on, there ended up being more stories involving him, but I'll just leave it there.  He really got drunk...

Thanks, Weldon! Is changing titles of threads an admin ability, or is there some secret trick that I haven't been taught yet?

You can't select "modify" on your posts, DD? Huh, weird. I thought everyone could do that to their own posts at least.

Yup--I think the University of Phoenix is one/the big reason our website address will never be phoenixonline.com :P

I can, and I am able to edit other people's posts, but whenever I try to change the title of a thread by modifying the first post in said thread, it never works. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or maybe us lowly mods (Actually, I think I'm the only mod on the forums. Everyone else is a global mod or an admin...) can't change thread titles. I already got a PM from Weldon about it, so I'm hoping he can look into fixing the issue, or just promote me to a global mod (fat chance, I know. I'm barely even on the forums enough to warrant such a promotion. You can blame college for that XD). In any case, let's talk about college! What memories have you from college? What's your current college experience like? Mine is interesting. I have a single dorm, so I'm lucky. I share a bathroom with only two other guys, both of which are very nice. So I don't have to bother being on a floor with like fifty guys. My roommates are just Me Myself and I, and we're a magnificent trio if I do say so myself. The workload is a pain in the butt though...

College has been really good to me at the moment. I finished my final last week and enjoying Christmas Break! Finals weren't so bad, I think the only one I struggled with was Geology, which is new because I am a total science nerd. After doing the same song and dance for five years now, I'm getting board and the stress is giving me white hair WAY before my time. I never have gone to a party and live at home with my parents still (cheaper to do it that way).

The big thing that ticks me off to no end right now is the lack of scholarships for me and the numerous hoops I have to jump through to get my teaching certificate. If the nation wants teachers, make it easier to get! No more hoops, please.

My rant is over and I feel much better now.  :)

Lucky; you got out earlier than me. I have a whole other week to go before my Christmas vacation starts.

I live at the dorms for now, but I haven't gone to any parties myself. I'm not much of a social person (ok, so that's half a lie. Among my friends you'll be told that I never shut up. Among strangers, you'd hardly ever see me open my mouth), nor am I that popular. So I'm not invited to parties, and I wouldn't want to go to them anyway. In fact, I think the two boys that live next to me were having one on Wednesday night, but I was just so engrossed in The Longest Journey at 3 AM in the morning that the whole world just disappeared. I will be commuting starting in my third semester to save my parents money, but I have to stay for winter, mainly because we already paid for a two semester agreement. Apparently, there's a $2,600 severance fee if you break the contract. So I might as well not bother paying that in addition to the deposit we already made. But I'm actually salivating at the thought of commuting. Doing so will allow me more time to work on TSL and I'll actually have a half-way decent internet connection. I say half-way decent because as long as my house is incapable of getting Fios, we won't ever have a good connection. I'm hoping Fios becomes available at my house soon, but it probably won't happen... It's available in my town, but I just happen to live in a deadzone. Figures.

I've got a German listening test this Tuesday. I don't see how I can prepare any more than I already have, it shouldn't be a problem.

Only had one real final this semester, for Algorithms. Don't think I did great on it, but I've done well enough on the other stuff that it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

My second class had no final (only thing we had to do for that class was three programming projects, which were all due on the last day of class - everyone was really busy the last couple of weeks of classes since most people had procrastinated :P)

My third class we just had to give a presentation last Monday and turn in our final project by tomorrow, which is what I'm currently working on finishing up so I can be done! :D

Good luck to everyone who still has exams! :D
