I hereby create a thread for the purpose of anticipating Bethesda's upcoming Elder Scrolls game.

To start: here is an image I assembled using 19 individual picture strips extracted from elderscrolls.com's hidden resources. The full-size image is too big for image hosting, so I file hosted it instead. I believe the image is a render of the set used to make the teaser.

I'm not sure how excited I'm about this. I certainly am, but after dreading Oblivion after my 50 hour mark on it, I hope that this one gets a lot better than that. This is one game I got all achievements for!

Of course, I haven't played Fallout so maybe they already did a better job at it.

They have learned their lesson with the major problems that Oblivion had. They are also using an all new engine for Skyrim.

I can't wait.

@Cez

Fallout 3 was a big improvement. Much much better than oblivion.

I loved Oblivion but quickly lost interest in Fallout 3. I may attempt to play it again.

I like oblivion. I just liked fallout 3 more.

They are using a completely new engine at least.

It is very interesting.

The Fallout games are great, although I never did compete Oblivion. I actually met some of the guys that made Oblivion at a game fair when I was at uni doing my game degree. With all the hobbyist coders out there with great portfolios its tough to impossible to even score an interview in the industry. The mention of a BSc doesn't bear as much weight as you might think. Oh well, freelance work has been good to me.

So they are using a new engine? Thank god. The old one was getting a little outdated for my tastes. I can't wait to see some actual screenshots of the game. I gotta admit, the whole reveal was a surprise, but that's not a bad thing. Unfortunately, the game wasn't in the gamestop system today. I imagine it will be added rather soon, but it wasn't there today. Maybe tomorrow?

I Never played Fallout and i Still Love Oblivion  ;D

I tried Morrowind, it was So Boring and Lame, that i just threw the Game away, No Way am i reading a Bagillion Text without Voice Acting and the Graphics were kinda Lame aswell.  :P

Cant wait for Skyrim.  :)

Fierce Deity

I couldn't get into Morrowind or Oblivion, but I liked Fallout 3. I think I'll just wait for Skyrim, as well.

I loved Oblivion. More than Morrowind. I haven't yet gotten Fallout yet either, but I hope to. I'm super psyched for Skyrim!

Delling

I loved Morrowind. I played Oblivion but IMHO not as good. I hope they've made magic more worthwhile again (there was so much fun to be had in Morrowind with magic that could not be had in Oblivion)... also, I can't be the only one who's going: "ooooooooooooooooooo... dragons! :D" Before there was the promise of dragons, I was contemplating not even getting Elder Scrolls V because of Oblivion.

Clearly, you can buy my loyalty with dragons!  ;D

I still haven't played much of oblivion. I played part of it, but nowhere near being done. Fallout 3 on the other hand... Well, I love that game too much... I still haven't played New Vegas, but I do plan to. I can only hope that Bethesda's next Fallout game will use a new engine, perhaps the one that Skyrim is using...

I found the magic system in Morrowind to be convoluted and completely unintuitive.  And that's not even mentioning how cumbersome it was to actually cast spells in combat.  Get out weapon, swing, sheathe weapon, back away, go to menu, select spell, go back to game, raise hands while continuing to back away, cast spell, rinse, repeat.  Terrible.  Just terrible.  If nothing else Oblivion deserves major props for actually making magic usable from a gameplay standpoint (though still not nearly as useful as an actual weapon.)  And this is from someone who LOVED Morrowind and played it to death.

I simply love the combat engine of Oblivion far more than Morrowind with it's "everything is a dice-roll" approach. Oblivion felt real. It's almost like the difference between Zelda and Secret of Mana for me.

The weirdest thing for me about Morrowind was how you could level up by just jumping all over the place if you made Acrobatics or Athletics or whatever it was one of your skills.

Jumping would be Acrobatics.  Athletics is running.  It's still that way with Oblivion, though it makes more sense than putting points in a skill if you don't ever use it.

Still, yay for Skyrim!  All we need now are games for the Black Marsh, Summerset Isle, and some of the other continents.  I am curious as to how the level editor will change.
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Aww!  You have the Sword of Hugging +3!  All of your attacks deal affectionate damage!

Melook

I could see Black Marsh being the next one. Summerset Isle, I would want them to wait until they have amazing technology, how amazing Summerset Isle sounds like, it desrves the best.

I think it's safe to say that they will re-release Skyrim with all of the DLC and slap a Game of the Year Edition title on it. Perhaps I should wait for that.

You never know... Granted, I'm always a sucker for getting things when they first come out, and then two years later realize I'm getting screwed with the GoTY editions.

But if the game is good enough...it would be worth the extra money. Plus you don't have to wait.
