Ya Haids what were you thinking taking a shot at what many worship as the holy superstar of Zelda games?
Gah!  *Hides in shame*  :help:

But (in my opinion) your perspective is perfectly reasonable.  There's been more confusion and debate about the Zelda timeline and game connectivity based on the ending of that game than any other game I can think of.
Thank you! Even moreso than the King's Quest timeline? ;)

I may have to say yes to that one - I've seen the most ridiculous debates lasting through hundreds and hundreds of posts about the Zelda timeline.  At least the new one seems to fit into a predictable place but I'm pretty sure there's going to be plenty of argument about that anyway.

Back on topic I also have to mention that I kind of hated the Tales of the World game - the rest of the Tales series I really enjoyed a lot but that one was just such an odd and confusing mishmash I couldn't ever get into it.

Who's taking it personally? o_O

And regarding the timeline, apparently there is none, according to Nintendo, and each Zelda game is its own story unreleated to another. I'm a "Splitist", myself :D. Despite Nintendo's stance.

It seems totally incredible to me now that everyone spent that evening as though it were just like any other. From the railway station came the sound of shunting trains, ringing and rumbling, softened almost into melody by the distance ...

The concept sounds great, but I'll tell you something..... after carefully reading every message in the tutorial (at least, every message that popped up before I was slaughtered in a battle two or three turns in) I have NO FREAKING IDEA how to the play the effing game. I can move from one spot on the map to another and I am fully capable of *entering* battle or jousts, just not winning them.

yeah, don't mess with Ocarina of Time!! That would be considered almost as bad as messing with King's Quest VI around here. :)

I haven't played Ocarina, (or any Zelda for that matter, I'm trying to rectify that), but from what I understand, Ocarina of Time is actually in the top 10 lists of many people's best games ever. From what I understand, it defined the 3D version of the genre.

It's an AMAZING game!  Don't misunderstand me, I absolutely love to play that game.  It took me almost a year to complete it because it was so intricate.  But I just felt like the ending wasn't worth all the hard work I did.

But, like everyone above me is saying, I just didn't get the ending, so... ::)

Don't worry Haids, I got your back.  I'll create a distraction and when I give the signal, run!

Worst game ever: King's Quest VI!

NOW!  RUN HAIDS, RUN!

As far as actual worst games, I really only ever played King's Quest and Space Quest growing up, so I never really got any bad games.  I do remember that my family had one fairly low-tech game we never were able to beat.  It was a murder mystery called Scoop.  I just remember it being boring and a bit mystifying about where you needed to go, who you talked to, and what you were supposed to do.  It still bugs me that I'll never know how that game ends and who actually committed the murder.

And though it seems unfair to bash free games, I have to say that Space Quest The Lost Chapter was completely unplayable for me.  Even if the game bugs weren't an issue, it's unplayable.  It just makes no sense.

I'd also say that playing 5 Days a Stranger was one of the most disappointing things I've ever done.  There was just so much buildup when I started playing free games, it had won awards, and it seemed like the general consensus was that if Jesus Christ himself descended from heaven and created a free game, he'd be lucky to even have it lick the boots of 5 Days a Stranger.  And then I played the game.  I just didn't like it at all.  But like I said, I feel bad about bashing free games, though I could do a whole rant on how I felt and how it was overrated.  That said, though, Trilby's Notes was awesome and did successfully everything that 5 Days failed at, in my opinion.

Nah, you guys got it ALL wrong. In fact, the worst game of all time, voted on G4TV many years ago is officially The Legend of Zelda: The Wand of Gamalon. It's been televised as the worst game ever. It was up against Shenmue, and, well, let's just say the CDi did not do Zelda justice... I'll be honest, I never actually played Wand of Gamalon, but that's a testament to how bad it is. Based on everything I've heard about it though, I am now tempted to play it just for kicks.

And for the record: DON'T MESS WITH MY LEGEND OF ZELDA, OR MY WRATH SHALL BE INCURRED! Ocarina of Time is among my favorite games of all time, hands down. It's up there with KQ6 and oh so many other games.

As for worst game I've ever played myself? That's tough. I'd want to say the original Sims on PS2, but I'm sure I can come up with worse than that. James Bond: The World is Not Enough for the N64 wasn't so great either (goldeneye, on the other hand... Now that is a masterpiece of gaming. And normally I don't even like First Person Shooters). Oh, I got two: the latest two Leisure Suit Larry games! ok, so I never actually played them, but who cares? Al Lowe wasn't involved, so they automatically suck (don't argue with my logic... It works for me! XD). Oh let's see here... Worst game... Worst game... Could it be SimTown? Nah, that was kinda fun... You know, it's harder to choose a game you hate over a game you love. There are so many games I could name right now that I loved, but I never truly thought of a game that I hated. OH! I GOT ONE! Kingdom Hearts RE:Chain of Memories. Don't get me wrong; I LOVE the Kingdom Hearts series (although the endless barrage of games and the indecisiveness of Square Enix over which system the series should be on is starting to irritate me a bit... But I'll save my rant on KH for later...) but the whole card based battle system in that game absolutely turned me off. I'm not a big fan of any combat system that isn't button masher friendly, and unfortunately, RE:CoM was most certainly not button masher friendly. You had to constantly recharge your deck, in the heat of battle. In order to attack an enemy, I had to use a card. In order to heal myself, I had to use a card. In order to cast a spell, I had to use a card. In order to open a door I had to use multiple cards. That's not right, man! It's just not right! I eventually got fed up with the game and never finished it. I would play through it in a heartbeat if they just did away with the card based battle system. I really wanted to play Reverse:Rebirth (which, for those that don't know, is unlocked after you beat RE:CoM and tells the story from Riku's perspective).

I've got some issues with certain aspects of great games, but I don't know if that counts. Like, for example, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, which is an absolutely amazing game, has one sequence that just pisses me off beyond belief. It pissed me off so much I was driven to actually physically break my PSP. Disney Town, why do you hate me? The whole mini-game idea is one that I am strongly opposed to to begin with. I can't stand minigames. Especially when they're mandatory. In BBS there is this one little minigame that I lose at every time. It's a rythym based game where I have to time my button presses with the sounds on the screen or something. I've done it fifty times. Apparently, a score of 600 is bad. By getting a "bad" score, Ventus dies. Yes, he dies. (ok, so technically we just get the normal Game Over screen with Continue, Retry, Load, but I mean, why am I brought to that after failing a plotless minigame?) The minigame has absolutely no bearing on the plot of the game as a whole (I'm giving a pass on KH2's Little Mermaid level as that actually did have some plot importance) but I digress. I could go on and on about which good games I'd try to change, but that's not the point of this thread. And I've typed a long enough response anyway.

I know I'm getting in on this late, but I just wanted to say, that even when I was a freshman in high school and beat Ocarina of Time way back when it came out, I remember explicitly thinking that it had the single BEST ENDING OF ANY GAME I HAD EVER PLAYED.  I am dead serious, too.  The ending was so cinematic and epic.  Seriously.  When the castle crumbled and Ganondorf rose from the dead as Ganon, I about crapped my pants.  And the fight with him!  Oh my f***ing god.  I was floored.  It was my first time through, and all I had to work with was the broken Big Goron sword.  But I persevered and brought his ass DOWN.  It was f***ing incredible.  And the coda, it just went on and on.  It was like weeping sweet sweet release after such a hard won fight.  Seriously.  That game's amazingness brought me to my knees.  And the ending was f***ing incredible.  The sage lights shining down from the sky on top of Death Mountain.  Having Link go back to the child Zelda at the end in the garden.  And then the final "The End" screen.  WOW.  Seriously.  How could anyone not be floored by that??  It was so epic.  Whatever.  There's no accounting for taste around these parts.  I realized that long ago.  So I guess I shouldn't be surprised.  Ugh.

Dude, calm down.  There's no reason to be rude about it.  You hurt people's feelings when you say things like that.

I'm sorry.  I was exaggerating.  I got carried away.  No offense.  I really was blown away by it though--it's one of the few experiences where I explicitly remember my initial reactions to the finale of a game.  Different strokes for different folks though, I guess.

Damar

Taste and story preference definitely play a role in how you perceive a game.  For example, I've never really enjoyed the Quest for Glory series.  I can see how they're technically good games, but when it comes down to it, I don't like RPGs, and I never felt that Quest for Glory moved beyond that.  Yeah it has some adventure gaming elements, but they always seemed incredibly watered down to me.  It's more RPG than adventure.  And I can't stand the sense of humor.  It's just not even remotely funny to me and actually annoys me, particularly when they try to do the rapid fire puns.  Yorik and Keapon in QFG 1 and 2 respectively literally made me boil in rage and completely kill the game for me.  At least until I leave their areas and kill a couple enemies.  Then I'm good.

So yeah, I see how Quest for Glory is a good game, and it is entertaining but due to my own personal preferences I could never call it a great game.  And when people rave about it, to be perfectly honest, I just don't get it.  To each his own I guess.

I think I had that for the NES, and if I remember correctly, big brother LOVES it.  I think he even still plays it!  Maybe the NES version was better?
