Anyone else remember the days of MS-DOS?  I know the NT kernal is seperate from MS-DOS but the 9x kernal uses it signifieciently.  My first computer was an IBM PCjr which I still have and I played King's Quest I on it which I greatly enjoyed.  What are your experience

I never used pure DOS myself... I skipped straight from a Commodore 128/64 to Windows 95. That was... a bit of an adjustment. Although it helped that I was used to mousing around GEOS for a few years. ;D

I got into KQ even later than that, I'm afraid... I only really discovered graphic adventures about 3 years ago.

Good old DOS days. I remember when it used to dominate the market and Windows was more like some GUI program rather than an actual operating system. :D  Computers would boot up in under 10 seconds and the keyboard was used way more than the mouse.

Hehe, I remember when Windows 95 came, everyone was like: "What did you do with DOS?" "Why do I have to go to 'Start' to shut down my computer?"  ;P

"A wish changes nothing. A decision changes everything."

wheee... DOS that was a long time ago... rememberd my dad took his pc from work to home in the holidays.... i played digger, striker, pong and kq1 on it!!

years later when we got our own pc we had windows 95  :o

<sigh> bit sad that my earliest memories are connected to computers ; /

Of course I come from the other side of the house. My first computer was an Apple IIe. I played King’s Quest I â€" IV on it. It was the greatest computer I’ve ever had, no gui, no drivers, you simply put the disk for the program you wanted (the big ol ones) in the drive and turned the beast on.

It either did one of two things… booted the program or didn’t… if it didn’t the disk was busted and your where SOL… but none of this OS business we fight with now… I didn’t even know what an OS was then… ah nostalgia

NOTE: et is nostalgic not stupid, he doesn’t plan to give up his PowerBook or XP box in favor of a IIe any time soon…  :o

My first computer was a good, olde fashioned 3-86 with DOS and Win 3.1. Start up. Type the name of the program I wanted to run. If there was a problem, just reset or turn off. None of this "waiting to shut down" bull.  I hate waiting! :suffer:

I don't debate, I ramble with STYLE!

....oops sorry for that. hmmmm.... i did some programming in DOS but that was too long ago, can't remember anything about it anymore ; (

I remember the soundcard-less days. Remember Monkey Island 1? It played everything in blips and blaps on the PC speaker :) They sure dont make em like they used to!  ;)

Oh but I loved to hear “Green Sleeves” played out in beeps when “King's Quest II” booted! It was almost as loud the crunch of the disk drive accessing… ;)

The earliest computer I remember we had was a ZX-Spectrum, we may have also had a ZX-81 before that, but I'm not really sure.

My first PC was DOS only - the first two computers I had weren't advanced enough to run Windows and applications at the same time :P

I liked DOS... Life was so much simpler then ;)
I only began using Windows (3.1, and later 95 and now 98) because I had games that required it. All those windows really confused me when I started using it :S
