Wait... Infamous adventures already released kq3.  What is going to be different? If its like kq2+, that would be awesome.

By the way... I'm stoked. Just curious

Well, AGD2 stopped by earlier and said that it's not a straight up remake, but it's also not a complete reworking like KQ2+. It lies somewhere in-between, hence why it's called Redux, not remake. I'm stoked myself. I really can't wait to play the game! AGDI certainly knows how to make amazing games! And I've got confidence in Himalaya Studios as well. I haven't actually played Al Emmo yet, but I may very well give their next game a shot. The fan community is so talented that it's just awesome to see these products actually coming to fruition.

Wow, I'm wicked psyched about this!  King's Quest III has always been one of my favorite games and now I'll have two updated versions of it!  Awesome!

I'm interested to see how they put the Father into this, as well as whether they tie up that whole subplot.  If this is the last non-commercial game that they're doing, then I'm wondering if they'll be tying up all the loose ends.  Yeah, part of the Father's curse from KQ2+ includes events from KQ4, 6, and 7 but that doesn't mean that the Father himself can't be defeated in this game.  So, yeah, interested to see what they do and what gets added.

And if we actually get to defeat the Abominable Snowman, well, that would make me giggle like a schoolgirl.  It always bugged me that the best you could do was avoid him.  I want to take that punk down!

We (IA) do have a few crossover team members from AGDI, but the game is fairly different.  This new one will continue KQ2+'s extra storyline, but it won't be quite the complete overhaul KQ2+ was.  IA's original KQ3 remake was more 1 to 1 by comparison.

Al Emmo v3.0 is out and it's free to people who bought a previous version already from the site.

liggy002

"The Father" will make a startling revelation to Alexander - he will say "Alexander, I am your Father"  And Alex will be like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!" and then the Father will be like "Gets em every time" and chuckle to himself.  "I'm everybody's Father dummy, I am THE Father of all" he will say.

That will be the Father plot add in for the Redux.

It was close but they added a few scenes here and there (maid stealing the baby, Manannan & Mordack, different dialogue with the Oracle, KQ4 happened directly after in the orig rather than 3 months, etc).

The Hero

sooo what makes better then IA's game and is it voice acted ?

KatieHal

I would guess it'll be voice-acted, since their other games are. But it's not been released yet, so no one could really say what exactly makes it different. As for "better", the aim isn't to be 'better', it's just their take on the game.

Well, the textures appear to be of somewhat higher resolution. Overall, I think both remakes will still be around. I don't think AGDI's version is going to elipse IA's. They're both unique enough to exist simultaneously I think.

A voice pack is confirmed in AGDI's forums.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

By 1 to 1 (1:1) they mean it as a ratio comparing the original to the remake. The original can't be 1:1 because it IS the original. It basically means nothing has been changed too drastically from the original storyline-wise. Whereas KQ2+ can't really be seen as 1:1 because of all the immense drastic changes to the storyline.

Hmm, you know what might be cool? If AGDI went back to their KQ1 Remake, one final time, and added some new material to foreshadow their sequels, and tie it closer into their universe. Like maybe some new puzzles, and interactions with the Dwarf, and Sorcerer/Enchanter, and a cutscene with the Father? I don't think they' would really have to do much, to make a special edition (between the three games, there is probably assets they can recycle).

Maybe, they could also add screens/modify screens to create a natural boundaries, and get rid of the wrap around.
QuoteOn the other hand, having TWO versions of KQ3 is going to make my fan fiction project (where I'm writing a King's Quest Companion using the fan remakes) super difficult

Technically it makes three versions... But who's counting?

Having more than one version of the game, hasn't stopped you from ignoring other versions before (see KQ2, although KQ1 and KQ5 have also been given two or more versions as well)? Why would this be any different?
QuoteTime travel, alternate realities, and aliens aren't restricted to the science fiction genre. They can do quite well in fantasy as well .
This is true, even the backstory for Adventure in Serenia (essentially KQ0), played with a time travel story, with essentially a grandfather paradox/paradoxal loop going on  (and depending on interpretation possibly an alternate reality). The story involves an unknown individual being sent back in time by the game's villain (who had been defeated previously, and hoped to prevent his demise from occurring), but inadvertantly sent back the individual ('the wanderer') who had/would ultimately defeat/ed him in the first place.  He had created the situation that set up his own demise.

Even King's Quest Companion, has always played with the parallel universe theory (as well as a reference to time travel concerning Rumplestiltskin in KQ1/3 and KQ5).

For some parallel universe/time travel might actually explain the discrepancies within the introductory stories in the manuals, hint books, in-game "about" text. It might explain for some why scenes between the games, don't always match up between KQ games (case in point the ending of KQ3 is not the same as the beginning of KQ4 in several ways).

Quoteno.  I mean i was asking if IA's remake 1:1 to the original
I would argue that its more like 1.5:1, maybe even as much as 2:1. Its close, and more or less follows the original story, but it's not quite the same. Its not to the level of changes made in KQ2+ however, but has several changes to the plot (and extensions), and to the setting. IA's version has much extended and different narration.

For that matter I wouldn't say KQ1AGI vs KQ1SCI is a 1:1 remake either. KQ1SCI changed several plot points, made it more linear, and totally changed the atmosphere and setting. As well as some puzzle changes. Both have different narration.

KQ1VGA (both versions) on the other hand is definitely 1:1 update to the KQ1SCI, using nearly all the same diologue, and artwork. 4.0 seperated itself only slightly from the KQ1SCI artwork, but script remained the same. Beyond that only extras added were a few easter eggs.

A few more screenshots. With some glances at Manannan and Alex. (who we tried to make similar to KQ6's Alexander)

And yeah, a KQ1+ WOULD be interesting. Unfortunately, it's not gonna happen.

KatieHal

They look great, Erpy! Excellent work. Oo, I wonder if that lower left corner is the devastated Daventry?

Hmm, I have to say, Alexander's purple shirt maybe the most garish outfit for Alexander yet, LOL.
QuoteAnd yeah, a KQ1+ WOULD be interesting. Unfortunately, it's not gonna happen.
The one thing I've learned i life, one can never say 'never  ;)', no one knows what will happen in 10 more years, ;). It took you almost 10 years to release the KQ1: Enhanced Edition 4.0. Maybe in another decade or two, some of your group will feel like releasing a Special Edition, 5.0. Plenty of time for you to see success from your new Himalaya Studios games... Perhaps some to see coming back to to tinker with KQ1 for the fun of it. Its not like any of you would have to create a new game from the ground up, but just add to what's already there.

Perhaps a third party, with your team's blessing could work on it as well, with your advice and suggestions (so that it doesn't interfere with any of your own team's work).

Of course it all depends on how much nostalgia you feel for your products 10-15 years from now, perhaps compatibility concerns if operating systems change drastically again, and other factors. I'm sure Activision would probably also have to give permission even all you did was make a updated version (5.0) of the game?

All in all, I wish Himalaya success on your original products, and hope you are are around for another 20+ years, :).
QuoteGreat screenshots! Mannanan has scary eyes!
Hmm is it just me, or does Manannnan look quite a bit like their version of the Sorcerer/Enchanter from KQ1/KQ2? Are they merging the character to add more motivation to his choice of kidnapping Alexander? A bit of revenge over losing the Magic Mirror, and the Diciple of the Cloud?
