So I've put together a novel specific timeline (its one of half a dozen 'official'  timelines I've put together using only official dates from KQ books);

King's Quest Timelines (A timeline listing the various variant KQ timelines, color coded to show differences between the timelines).

Compare with;
KQ1 timeline (primarily focuses on KQ1 material)
KQ2 timeline (primarily focuses on KQ2 material)
KQ3 timeline (primarily focuses on KQ3 material)

The above timelines can be considered a trilogy, and are likely linked together/share dates.

Next set of timelines are a bit more self contained, and mainly represent individual games (as it seems timing between various events changed quite a bit in later sources).

KQ4 timeline (primarily focuses KQ4 material)

KQ5 timeline (focuses on KQ5 material)

KQ6 timeline (focuses on KQ6 material)

KQ7 timeline (focuses on KQ7 material)

Companion timeline (focuses on dates from the KQ Companion)

Novel timeline (this is primarily specific to the novel trilogy.

I've discovered Peter Spear was right, when he said that the King's Quest games take place between a twenty or twenty-five year period. As one can see the various time lines either fit very close to twenty year mark or very close to the twenty-five year mark. There are 2-3 alternative timelines beyond that seem to go as much as 27 years after KQ1 (but those seem to be the rare exceptions to the rule).

King's Quest might have the most convoluted timeline of all the sierra franchises (and PQ, GK, and QFG are all pretty bad).

With PQ there is essentially two main time lines (the original trilogy and the reboot/remake timeline). Though there are a bunch of alternate dates out there for Sonny Bond's birthday, and his joining the force, is different in almost every single game he appears. Each game in the series seemed to adjust the dates somewhat between the last.
PQ timeline

With QFG there are only really two timelines (one based on a one year tetralogy, and one based off of the Cole's Mordavia timeline). Both are pretty straight forward.
List of QFG timelines.

Gabriel Knight is pretty convoluted, with basically two main time lines, given in the game series, and the novel series by Jane Jensen. But each additional game doesn't necessarily remain strict to dates given in a previous game (much in the same way as PQ). Gabriel for example has 2-3 birth dates given depending on the source.

SQ. There is however a basic timeline that can be gleamed form the various SQ sources.

However, I've found the timeline harder to follow or pin down (there really aren't that many references to how much time takes place between events, and the stardates are useless, as are SQ4 eras titles). The official material more or less can be put into two main time blocks though via info from the Space Quest Companion (a kind of pre-SQ2 eras), post-SQ3 eras. Material in the companion and other guides suggests there is something like a something like a century to a millenium between escape pod at the end of SQ2, and Roger waking up in SQ3 (although there is stronger support for the 'century' as opposed to the 'millenium'). There are also some ages given for some of the SQ5 characters in official SQ5 Hintbook by Mark Crowe, et al. The lack of hard dates, also means there is far less contradiction between dates in the SQ series as well.

Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

Jeez, Baggins, you are always a great source of King's Quest information! :)

You are the Google of King's Quest.  The Wikipedia.  The Urban Dictionary!

In any case, you're awesome. :D

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

edit: I've finished a day by day break down for the game novels in the Companion timeline (minus the KQ7). Similar to the ones in the Novel timeline.
