You will routinely be placed in situations where you must find an arbitrary list of items hidden in a cluttered scene in order to progress. The activity is easy to pick up for newcomers and fun to engage in for both newcomers and veterans alike.

A hint button can be utilized if you find yourself stumped, and three difficulty settings are presented to the player at the beginning of the game to fine-tune their experience. Casual difficulty causes the hint button to recharge in 20 seconds, and interactive hotspots in a scene are highlighted. Normal difficulty recharges the hint button in 60 seconds, and the highlighted hotspots remain active. Expert difficulty slows the hint button’s recharge to 2 minutes, and there is no highlighting of interactive zones.

An example of a level where you place items into the scene

Not content with just the usual gameplay feature of searching for items hidden in cluttered scenes, Lost Civilization expands upon this to create a fresh experience. One way it does so is with certain scenes that actually have the player place items into the scene. An example of how this would work would be seeing a fly in your list of items, and locating a spider web in which to place the fly.

Another way Lost Civilization stirs the pot is by having the player combine items together to progress through the scene. An example of this would have the player connect two halves of a broken key, and then use that key on a lock which will open a box that contains some more of the items they need to locate. A good way to notice if an item is hidden inside another is to look at its name in the list. If the name is not lit up, it’s not currently able to be selected in the scene, and you may need to work the scene somehow to get it to show.

Items will be hidden in drawers such as these

But why stop there?
