Hi guys,
The idea of remaking this extremely old game started just as a way of practicing and testing my skills in AGS. I've been doing a very good job with animations and scripting so I realised that it can become a great game if I get some help from other people (specially with the plot and music).

I've read some of the fanfics at these forums so I know that there's a lot of talented people around here. The idea is to rewrite the story of the game to link it with the King's Quest universe.

Any help, comment or idea will be appreciated.

THE STORY
Young King Edward of Daventry travels through the land of Serenia to rescue a princess from the evil wizard Harlin.

If everything goes well and I finish this short game, I have plans for a second (and MUCH bigger) project in the future...

LOL!  Now that's what I call a remake. ;P

Anyway, given what our project went through, I do suggest being careful about using Sierra IP, although your project sounds pretty original so you should be safe. :)  As for MoE, trust me, you'll be doing VU a favour. ;-D

I've already seen them, my friend. I usually contribute to the omnipedia and  I even wrote some of those articles... Thanks anyway  ;)

One of the plot details that I haven't solved yet -I'm commenting this cause I know how much Baggins likes to compare the fan game details with the official sources-  is the identity of the saved princess. In the original W&P she's princess Priscilla, but if I want her to be the  future wife of Edward and queen of Daventry, she should be princess Maylie. Should I follow the Wiz&Princess plot or the KQ one?

Well I would prefer for it to be closer to the original intent as a King's Quest prequel, and tie into official history. So character names should remain the same(though I see nothing wrong with giving the wanderer a name if you want him to have one).

If wanderer is to be Edward, then maybe he's just saving Princess Priscilla but not necessarily going to marry her? ...or maybe Princess Maylie's full name is "Maylie Priscilla"(...or Priscilla Maylie)? Maybe Priscilla is Maylie's sister? So through Priscilla, Edward would be able to meet Maylie.

Then again you could use the name "John the Wanderer" which was going to be the original name for the author of the Guidebook of the Green Isles. That would make for an interesting obscure refrence.

For that matter, you could use Derek Karlavaegen as well, since he for all intents and purposes replaced "the Wanderer" for the guidebook.

Course there is also Colin Farwalker, another wanderer of sorts, that might make for an interesting tie-in to KQ7.

...or you could make him Sir Hereward (Graham's father). In which case you could imply that Priscilla is Graham's mother. Which would explain some of Graham's noble birth. It could allow for a neat scene, if the epilogue showed Graham being born to the couple.

...or you could make wanderer Edward's father, and Priscilla his mother. So that would add dynasty to Edward's lineage(there is next to nothing known about Daventry before Edward's reign).

There is really many different ideas you could choose for the identity of the Wanderer, which could be used to add a sense of history to tie it to the other games.

If you really want to make the game interesting you could literally lengthen the game by portraying the two journeys of the Wanderer. The first half of the game would be a unique all original quest. Harlin loses the first battle, but sends wanderer back in time(as the prologue story mentions). So then the hero has to go through the second quest based on the original game.

I think it would be great to see Graham's father on a quest. We could learn more about him (even if it's not canon) and prove that adventuring (and royalty) was in his blood. ;)

I prefer the Wanderer to be young Edward, as it was the initial idea for this remake... though I certainly agree that it would be cool to see Sir Hereward on a quest. I decided that he's going to make at least a short appearance in the intro of the game, as he was an important knight in Daventry and a very close friend of Edward.

I've enjoyed your posts and ideas, and I think that i'll go for the idea of Priscilla being Maylie's sister. It makes a lot of sense in my mind and it fits with some other details that i had thought for the plot. So the original game's characters will remain the same (at least Priscilla and Harlin).

I'm going to give names to other characters like the king of the snakes, the giant guarding Harlin's castle and maybe the pirate, and create brand new characters as well. Also expect to see a cameo appearance of an old good wizard and his owl friend...  ::)

First off not bad ideas... Idea of Edward seeing Hereward during the game, and Priscilla being Maylie's sister sound like workable ideas.

Also consideri that while Edward may marry Maylie, there is still a chance that Hereward marries Priscilla after she is rescued, ;). Thus making Graham Edward's nephew.

Granted with Edward involved, the Shield of Achille, Chest of Gold and Magic Mirror should be involved in the story since at that time DAventry still had those items, and at least it should have a good eplanation why he doesn't bring the shield along to use.

BTW did you know that another fan game designer has plans to work on the similar idea, but is calling it King's Quest Zero?

Your game sounds a bit better though, since they were just going to use AGI graphics :p.

Also you have a chance to tie in "Eye Between the Worlds" into your version of the story, since one of the items the wanderer was given was a computer to help him on his journey. So the potential of the quest also involving Manannan is possible... You might have the fun of explaining how Manannan came into possession of the eye, from the Wanderer (if it is one and the same computer).

Crispin and Cedric should be fun.

So any possibility of following the plot of the original game, and having "Edward" be forced to go on two seperate adventures due to Harlin's time reversal spell to make for a longer game?

Granted, original story also seems to imply that their were two different adventurers known as "the wanderer", and neither were the same person. Both ended up defeating Harlin, during seperate occasions.

"I can reverse the sands of time with a single spell and face a new adventurer - and this time I won't lose! ...Many have tried to defeat me; only one has succeeded.
-Harlin

Since time travel is involved you might actually want to touch on the concept of paradoxes a little... have the two wanderers cross paths in the past at certain points during the story. Perhaps the second wanderer enters the castle just as the previous wanderer weakens Harlin, allowing the second one a better chance at defeating Harlin for "good". Perhaps second wanderer reaches Harlin  just after he sent (...or is just contacted) the second wanderer back in time..

If the original idea that there may be infact two wanderers is kept, then its possible that one could be Edward, and the other Hereward. It it could be used to further show how they built their friendship.
