Looking for XNA/iOS Programmer for Pong Kombat Re-make
« on: September 17, 2011, 08:35:15 AM »
Hey, I am really proud of the work I was able to accomplish in creating some mockup images and website for a possible Pong Kombat re-make project I'd like to do.  Unfortunately, I hit a few snags over the past 2 years and am going to abandon the individual development in favor of trying to assemble a small team that can all benefit from the project.

The goal is to release a somewhat high-quality game based on a freeware title from the mid-90's called Pong Kombat.  The subject matter of the game should at least keep the development relatively basic, yet allow us a lot of room to learn a particular framework or get our feet wet, perhaps to use in a portfolio or resume.

If interested, please contact me at jeff<at>pongkombat<dot>com.

If you just wanna check out some pics and/or follow the project, have a look at the website http://www.PongKombat.com

Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you or see you around!

Interesting concept...

It might be easier to get people interested if you give more description of the basic mechanics of gameplay.

Hey, snabbott! Thanks for the tip!

For anyone not wanting to take time to visit the website, www.pongkombat.com, which should explain the project as best as possible, here is a description of the game mechanics:

Take The classic game, Pong, two paddles volleying a ball across the screen. If a paddle fails to return the volley, the opponent is scored a point. Now, add in the ability to execute special attacks, ala the Mortal Kombat franchise, which can score points, defend volleys, or alter the physics of the ball. Easy on the game logic, heavy on the design, quality, and humor.

I do have a full design document available for anyone that may be interested in helping out with the project. I'd be more than happy to discuss further via email or chat to serious candidates.

Hey Jeff, I like your idea. I played the original back when. Actually, there were two: Pong Kombat and Mortal Pong. I played the one whose fatality was a generic Autodesk Animator (.FLI or .FLC) file, which you could play without running the game. :P

I'm currently on my phone, so the site isn't working great for research, but what is XNA?

Thanks for the reply, DawsonJ.  XNA is a framework built on C# that is provided by Microsoft for the development for Xbox 360 games, notably Xbox LIVE.  Strangely, I don't recall the "Mortal Pong" version that you mention, but I may have to do some research of my own, perhaps for ideas.
