Hey folks, the next Greenlight date has been announced: April 17th! We are still holding strong in the 50s and would love to get a boost that will take us into the hallowed halls of being available on Steam. :)

So head on over to vote us up and share the link with fellow adventure fans!

already did that for a few of them.

Others didn't really care for the game, they just voted because I asked them to :P

I'd love to hear any ideas the forumers and fans have on ways to promote the Greenlight voting. We'd love to put asking for votes behind us, so if anyone has ideas, please share them! ;)

I have a few thoughts.

One: Pendulo Studios put their solid semi-recent PC adventure game release "Yesterday" on the Android Google Play market around Christmas time.  It was on the front page of the Play store for a brief time and AdventureGamers still has the banner for the game on its rotation of ads.  They put out an ads-based complete version of the game for free and offered a pay version for $4.99 that loses the ads.  The free version of the game got somewhere in the range of one hundred thousand to five hundred thousand downloads.  The pay version got the range of 5,000 to 10,000 purchases.  I'm not sure what to think of that in terms of profitability.  However, what is certain is that a lot of people downloaded the free ads-based version.  Something you could try with Cognition Episode One is the same deal on the iOS Store and/or the PC version, and for as one of the ads you could throw in a token "if you like this game, please support the series by voting for it on the Steam Greenlight" with a link to the vote.  I think most of the market of people that would be willing to buy Episode One is probably tapped out at this juncture as things stand(not meant to offend, I have no stats on this, just an assumption) so this move could spark a new round of buyers and at the least should get a decent number of people that will at least consider clicking on your project to vote for it on Steam.

Two: Expanding the Greenlight campaign a bit to one of the major gaming sites like IGN or Penny Arcade if possible.  A mention from a major outlet like that can go a long way.

Three: This is not a criticism, your short trailer for the iOS version of the game is pretty good in my view, but one thing it doesn't do that you did do for the PC version trailers is mention some of the people behind the work of the game and their previous work.  Getting out some of that information might help a bit more with the popularity of the game there, and hence also help with the Greenlight voting.  Again, you could also put something linking to the Greenlight voting in said trailers.

I'm afraid getting major websites to notice you is not as easy as it seems, you can message them, but it's more than likely they'll never get back to you :P

As stika said--big sites get a LOT of submissions and press releases and media alerts all the time, so getting featured there is not always easy. Trust me, we're always trying! :) Ads can be great, but of course they cost money and as an indie that's still new on the scene, keeping things budget-friendly is also always a priority.

We've talked about making Ep 1 a free download at some point. Probably not until all four episodes are released, at the very least, though. Apple also does not allow for links to outside websites to appear in their apps, so unfortunately, we can't even put in a link to our regular website there, much less Steam Greenlight. :/

Keep the ideas coming, folks, and thanks for the replies so far!

That policy by Apple is pretty lame.  I will say(again, not knowing the economics) that to me if you release Episode One as a free download I think it stands a far better chance of drawing newcomers to the series if it's released soonish rather than if it's released when the series is finished.

Since when did that outside link policy get made? o_O I've put out games with one company that have a link to their company website...

I don't know when it happened, I just know it was in the terms we had to agree to to put our game up.

I wonder if that's the policy to discourage people from making purchases from outside an app (and thus depriving Apple of its 30% cut). :-\

And how many are needed to get onto Steam?

KatieHal

The good will of the Steam curators--aka, there is no set number, it's entirely up to them in the end. But the more votes we have, the better :)
