Are you going to play both versions of KQ6, too?
What other KQ6 version is there ???

Crappy (DOS original version), Fantastico (Windows).

Whats different in the DOS version ???

The major difference is the dialogue portraits. The DOS version has much simpler ones:

While the Windows version has more detailed ones, with lip-sync.

What I find to be the worst difference is the lack of voice acting in the DOS version.

Eh? My DOS version had the option to enable the voices. You sure you don't mean the disk version? (The CD version came in Windows and DOS, with voices available for each, but with different dialogue picture sets for each version. The disk version was only DOS, and the DOS dialogue pictures, AFAIK.)

Er. You people are crossing me up here. ;)

I have two versions. One came with the King's Quest Companion (1-6), and the other is on its own CD.

The King's Quest Companion version (DOS version) has no voice acting. As such, I have only completed it once.

I have the original KQ6 cd, and I have noticed that switching from speech to text gets very different pictures. I know that the text takes up room, but why did the pictures turn out so different??

i have the original KQ6 on a Cd of its own and the one in the Collection of 1-7 ;D, and both have speech ;)

I would also like to know why the pictures are different when using text and speech ???

The pictures are higher quality (and some based on video) and in sync with the voice track. The nicer dialogue pictures where another feature I believe of the CD-ROM based version of the game.  My collection version features these pictures while my disk-based version (mine for Mac) does not.

There are two sets of dialogue pictures in KQ6 - regular and high-res (640x400) with lip-synch (though I don't think any of them are based on video).
The regular pics are used if you play in the DOS version or in text mode. The enhanced pics are used if you play the Win version with speech.

As for WHY - you'll have to ask Sierra  ;P

When you are in Windows and you have text on it has bad quality pictures :-\, and when your in windows with speech on it has high quality pictures :S

It happens in Windows as well :-\

Yep. Like I said, Windows or no - the text option always gives you the low-res pics. Maybe they were too lazy to put the hi-res pics in the text option as well  :P

i found it quite weird that it was so crap when text and not when speech ;D

I thought that there was something wrong with my game at first :-\, but then i got the KQC and it also happened on that version :), so i realised my other one wasnt ruined :D

Yeah, I was bummed to find when doing my screenshots that the text mode uses the low-res pictures. There's some deaths that have interesting high-res facial expressions for the dialogue.

When Alexander dies and you see him say something on mine its in low resolution :-\

I liked the low-res dialogue pics... Some of them were better than their hi-res versions IMO. Of course, I did play KQ6 for the first time with the DOS version (and hence with the low-res pics) ;)

I do think the low-res pics are cute in their own way, I just like the expressiveness of the high-res pics a lot. (Although I do think that the low-res pic of Alex is actually kinda cuter than the high-res one...)

And I thought I was the only one  ;B

Hee. I think the high-res one makes him look too old, IMHO, and a bit too angular-looking. The low-res image of him (and the "close-up" cutscenes) is handsomely boyish. Although my absolute fave image of Alex is the one on the cover of the "Floating Castle" novel.
