In general, the game is event-based (i.e. Hand on Door, Walk on Path, Eye on Dude, etc).  There are some puzzles that are time-based, but advancement through the game definitely isn't based on time. :)

And you're too young to be having a mid-life crisis. ;P

I'm just wondering how events are going to be triggered in KQIX.  Will it be like KQIII where events are triggered by the game clock and the stuff you do?  Or will it be more like all the other KQs (except IV) where they're all triggered by your choices in game?

See above.  It'll be a combination, but the majority will not be time-based.

Will there be situations in the game where you have do a specific action or series of actions in a certain amount of time or you'll die?

Will those puzzles kill you if you don't complete them in time, or would you merely have to start the puzzle over?
All that is gold does not glitter
Not all who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not touched by the frost

From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king

In my opinoin, the puzzels should be a lot more like KQVI than anybody else's.  ;D
