I know, doesn't it? I truly believe that there will be a new found popularity for King's Quest, and adventure games in general, once TSL is released. And I have a strong feeling that 2010 will be the year that it all returns.
You're probably right. They'll probably do like a special 25th anniversary edition compilation or something.
Imagine how these boards are going to explode once the game is released! It won't be the same 20 people posting every day anymore.
I remember way back in the day when these forums were crowded with people. That's when a lot of people got their post count up. The forums were bustling with activity, sometimes with a couple of hundred posters on at once. It was really cool. Sadly, that all declined to a few people. I'm truly hoping that the forums will explode with activity again, but only time will tell.
As for a 25th anniversary collection, I have a feeling that won't be happening. What usually ends up happening with adventure game licenses is that they sit on a shelf never to be used again. I doubt Activision-Blizzard will put the licenses to good use, but only time will tell. If they do release a new collection, I am totally up for it, and I'm hoping that they make them compatible for windows 7 and fix a lot of the bugs and compatibility issues. And maybe some extras, like making of videos from back in the day, interviews with the designers, things like that.
But I definitely think that KQ will come back in a big way in 2010, in part due to TSL. But, Sarien.net will probably play a part too. It continues to advance, and it's really pretty cool. I would suggest checking it out.
Anyway, I do believe that the forums will have a resurgence once the game is released, and I predict that 2010 will be a big year for King's Quest, and adventure games in general. Let's hope I'm right!
