Just two days left everyone!!

The final summary, for King's Quest: Mask of Eternity, is up on the blog! Read about how Connor MacLyrr saved Daventry and even the world from the evil of Lucreto.

Looks good!

To think that we just covered the final official game, and that we have only two days left... Well, all I can say is that I can't wait for Saturday!
This is Nifty, Royal Heir.

I'm like, an adult now or something? Sounds fake, but okay.

Good, summary but, you probably should put a note, that he was known simply as Connor in the official released game. To avoid confusion. That the name MacLyrr is based on early concept material.
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

I think it has become a widely known name now. Especially for TSL fans.

Well, here is the issue. The name MacLyrr, or rather "mac Lyrr/Mac Lyrr" was part of an early prototype when Connor was the son of a Fisherman, and a fisherman himself. MacLyrr, or the son of the sea god Lyrr. Which was a nod to him being a fisherman.

When they dropped the name, and made him a tanner, he no longer has that connection to the sea. According to Mark Seibert, they may have also dropped the name to simply make his name shorter, like other KQ characters, Graham, et al.

So really the only people that really know the prototype name are those that have read old magazines where Mac Lyrr was mentioned. Otherwise, most people only know him by his official name, "Connor".

Bit of a trivia the seaside Daventry would have been in the game as an additional level. You would have fought a hydra there. It may have been the original planned starting area back when Connor was going to be a fisherman.

Besides if your going to run a trivia of MOE, you really should point out the behind the scenes trivia as it was meant to be, to keep things honest ;). Not everyone who runs accross TSL in the future will know the trivia behind, or where the name MacLyrr originates from, and it would be nice to give them a heads up.

I don't think name meanings mean anything. My name means From Hadria and from God. I can assure you I am not from Hadria and the only relationship I have with god is based upon my faith. You don't have any control on the name you are given especially your last name which is a passed down from the previous generation. How do we know that Connor's father or grandfather wasn't a fisherman?

Let's not speculate, on what his father was or wasn't. I'm only stating the facts, of what the prototype story was. You are more than welcome to read the old magazines to see the changes in development story for the character, and the reasons he originally had the longer name. Connor wasn't born on the moment the Mask exploded as said material stated, in the official released version of the game :p...

You know earliest prototype story was that Connor was going to be a marble statue came to life, you wouldn't suggest that he was the created through the unholy union of a mountain and a fisherman? Because that would be just silly...

To hopefully prevent another long-running debate on this one, I'll just step in now. :) For TSL's purposes, we are acknowledging the last name MacLyrr (spelt thusly) for Connor. So we'll be referring to him as such in any instances where his last name may come up, including, in this case, the MOE recap.

Oh, I have nothing against you referring to him as MacLyrr, I'm just pointing out that you should probably point out where you got the name from. Since its not in the original version fo the game, or any of the released material. You should point people back to old magazines, or whatever the took the name from. Cite your sources.

In anycase, your character does have his own page section here (i'll help expand it when I get the chance);

At least he has a last name, right? He could have been Connor...just Connor. Now he can be like James Bond. "MacLyrr, Connor MacLyrr, saver of Daventry."

Baggins

"Graham, Cracker Graham, saver of Daventry." :p
