they are both great
and amy was born to narrate.

KITTY EDIT: fixed the spelling of "narrate" for you, Hero :) :cat:

In my opinion, Jason is as good--if not better than--Josh.  I grew up with the games too, but somehow I think that Jason's voice captures King Graham better than Josh's did.  *Shrugs* I dunno, that's just me.

And Amy doing the narrating is sooooo cool!  When I played the demo I was pleasantly surprised that there was a woman as the narrator.  TSL is breaking the mold in so many ways, and to me, that's just another amazing example of how they're doing it. :)

My favorite Narrator is probably the one in KQ6. I think yours is better than the one in KQ5 though (Mr. Scratchy Throat).
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

Josh Mandel seemed to really suit KQ5 well, in a game full of casting Roberta Williams as a rat, and, well, including Cedric at all, it was a bit less serious. He was probably one of the best voice actors in the game, but that's not saying much. Honestly, I feel like the voice for Graham in TSL has a much more dramatic and majestic voice. It carries power and emotion a lot better, which is definitely more suited for TSL. As much as I love the fan remakes, they carry the same amount of cheese as their predecessors. :P

I really don't mean disrespect to either the original games or TSL, but they have different tones, different purposes, and I think they've both figured out how to make that work with their voice acting. :)

The fact is, when I heard Graham speak in TSL, I knew it was him. It wasn't really what he was saying or anything, it just...it felt like Graham to me, and that's a powerful reaction to elicit. XD

Ahh... Josh -was- a great Graham.  That said, Jason's voice fits my personal perception of how I've always imagined Graham's voice to sound before VA was introduced into the series.

I'm looking forward to all of this  :D

Come to think of it, did Graham have many actual lines in the early KQ games? I seem to recall the narrator more or less described what he would be saying, if he had something to say. But he was more or less treated as the silent hero, heh heh.

I think it was KQ1 SCI and KQ5 that really gave him a voice, so to speak.

So I was able to get into contact with Mark Seibert again, and I asked him why they didn't use Josh Mandel, in MOE. Apparently they had to use all SAG members for the cast. Apparently the reason why they gave him an old english accent was to keep him consistent with the style they had chosen for Connor.

You should ask why they chose to give all of the characters in MoE British accents and Olde English language whereas in all previous games the language of the characters had been in modern English, and in KQ5, 6 and 7 all of the Royal Family had American accents.

That is a good question, I'll try to bring it up to him. All I know about who was involved with the voice directors and voice casting choices, is that it was Roberta Williams, followed by Mark Seibert in the credits.

Roberta, was the writer for the game's story, and director. Mark, was the producer/director/co-designer of the game. Since the faux english accents are written into the game's text, it may actually be Roberta's fault since she was the writer. So it may be a question only Roberta could answer, but I'll ask Mark if he knows anything.

Because an English Royal Family is more realistic?  :suffer: :suffer:

I <3 Connor but he is beyond my reach!

B'rrr

Realistic? Dragons, giants, pegasi, etc. Not really the things you would describe as realistic. As soon as you create your own kingdom in your own world the accent you pick for the people doesn't have to be in any relation to whatever royalty speaks in the real world.

I was only joking rob, hence the  :suffer:

and when I said "realistic" I meant in terms of Daventry being a place in England (perhaps the use of the actual place name was unintentional as all other place names are fictional but still it's nice to think that it has links to a real place  ;) lets go visit davntry in a mass TSL group  :suffer:)

But also the fact that Knights and Kings are generally a European thing rather than American...just as possible answers for why they chose to use English Accents in MoE :)

My guess Roberta chose to write the story in that style because she thought, it would appeal to the swords and sorcerery's crowd (as she once partially described MOE). She wanted the game to appeal to more than the niche KQ crowd. But who knows.... Maybe she just liked to hear "Tis Beyond my Reach"... :suffer:

I have to say that despite having differences with Josh Mandel, we've finally overcame those and ever since he's been one of the most amazing supporters we've had.

I'm glad. I'm extremely glad. I can only say good things about him ! He's truly awesome!

I think Josh Mandel as Graham (in KQ5 anyway) sounded a bit like Richard Nixon. That's a good thing--Both guys have very authoritative voices.
