I wouldn't be surprised if this last chapter might get the go ahead to be finished now that Microsoft has bought Activision who currently owns the rights to the Kings Quest Series. I just saw a interview with Phil Spencer from Xbox saying he wants to see games from his childhood come back and Kings Quest was mentioned.
Speaking with The Washington Post, Spencer said, ‘We’re hoping that we’ll be able to work with them when the deal closes to make sure we have resources to work on franchises that I love from my childhood, and that the teams really want to get.
‘I’m looking forward to these conversations. I really think it’s about adding resources and increasing capability.’
This means fans could see the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Spyro The Dragon, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater come back. Spencer even namedrops Guitar Hero and King’s Quest as examples of long dormant franchises.
‘I was looking at the IP list, I mean, let’s go!’, said Spencer, while reminiscing over favourite games of his youth. ‘King’s Quest, Guitar Hero… I should know this but I think they got Hexen’.
