It's now been a year since the last comment on this thread. For what has been originally touted as a "labor of love" (according to the TSL page", we haven't received any word from the team at this point. Are they still working on it bit by bit? Do they have a team working on it, even if it's just for five minutes a month? Is it more of a burden for them to work on now instead?

I get that POS needs to prioritize more profitable ventures to put food on the table and I hope the dev team is able to do so, but it'd also be nice to know if they're still thinking about it as a project.

I go back and forth about being understanding about this, and being upset. Yes I understand it's a free game and I understand that life happens. But I'm sure that there are several king's quest fans who are also game developers that would love to help, since the original team can't do it anymore. All we get is radio silence, and the way that this has been handled since the haunted castle experience has been poor. We were promised more frequent updates, and then radio silence. I don't understand how you can go to being less than a year away to this game never getting finished. Is the source code lost? Is the script lost? Is it that all the voice actors have moved on? Surely something can be done to get a chapter 5 released, even if some quality has to be sacrificed. I'd love to help and have some experience with Unity, though I know my limits. I mostly have done 2d game programming. I've done some stuff with blender in a college environment, but 3d stuff is not my expertise. Regardless of what I say here, we're not going to get a response from TSL dev team, so it's a bit moot. We're not allowed to donate money since it's a fan game, so there's nothing that can be done without the cooperation of staff.

I understand RL happens, and economic constraints etc.
All those are perfectly valid reasons, s*** happens and sometimes you can't complete stuff even if you have the best intentions.

What I don't understand is how the Phoenix Studios staff completely ignores the fans coming here, year after year. A simple update, progress report or even lack of progress report, anything.. ffs, even if they had said they can't complete the project that'd be better than not saying anything, and for years.

I haven't said anything for a long time, respecting the people that have done this project out of love of the original game, but this is just not right.

This series made me a big fan of this company. I bought several of their games a few years back, and would probably continue doing so, but this whole situation with ignoring us TSL fans is just so disappointing.. I don't think I'll ever purchase any TSL game, tbh.  I'm sorry but that's just how I feel.

KatieHal was last active in May 2023 so I don't think there's anyone around on staff that still cares. I agree with the sentiment about not purchasing Phoenix Online games. It's going on 8-9 years past the announced release date with no more information. Even the people who once cared don't really check here anymore.

Hi Phoenix,

Phoenix Online did a gread job with tsl so far. I was amazed by the size of the world that had been created. Everything was fun. A fan game that's in a league of its own. We've been waiting for the final episode for many years now, but it just doesn't seem to be coming. It's not that I'm asking for another game to be released—I just want the story to be brought to a close. Maybe the game fell through because the developers don't have the time anymore. I can understand that. But then they could at least do the following:
1. Finish the story in text form.
2. If there's time, finish the story in the form of a comic.
3. Upload the current project status and allow another dedicated project team to finish the game.
4. Be honest and say that you can't continue.
