One idea:

Could be added a new thread (only can post webmaster and related) which contains the useful info like:

- e-mail address to send an e-mail to VU
- the petition of koko
- the "real" post addrress

and some suggestions to "save" kq like: these ones?

Hi, new to the forum but I remembered stumbling upon this website about 2-3 years ago.

I'd just like to say that I am a huge fan of Adventure and Puzzle games and have always been a  big fan of the REAL Sierra's Adventure games and have been since the mid 80's when I played Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Willy Beamish and others on the Amiga 500. Heck, in the Commodore 64 days I've played Roberta Williams Mickey's Space Quest among others of the time.

I never had the opportunity back then to play the KQ series for a variety of reasons. But we'll skip forward some years and I will say that the KQ series while not my favorite (Leisure Suit Larry is for the curious) has always intrigued me and brought me hours of game playing fun. Now we will skip to the present, I too develop independent games. I know all too well how much of your pain, sweat and joy goes into creating games. I just want to say that I hope you can fight the good fight. Because you the developers of KQIX are the good guys here. Don't let any nonsense C&D letter tell you or make you feel otherwise. Frankly, the computer game industry with a few exceptions has become total crap. Here we have people that want to develop a fan game for KQ and Adventure fans alike a genre which with the exception of The Adventure Company and Dreamcatcher is horribly overlooked and this happens. We can only wonder what this will ultimately lead to. Today it's all about easy breezy games. There's really no challenge left in most of today's games made by the big companies.

VU does not understand games. It understands money. I will give two examples which may have already been posted. (I read the first 4 pages, don't have the opportunity to read all 37 as of this post.)

Example 1: With that horrible attempt at Leisure Suit Larry, they left Al Lowe right out of the game, didn't take his input, sent him a couple of letters, how they would but ultimately didn't. Right there that's a red flag that THIS IS ALL ABOUT MONEY. Sure we could all put together a crappy game and charge $40 for it but what's the point there is no challenge. As a result the game did poorly. The game was nothing like Leisure suit larry all it really did was satisfy a couple of teenagers who brought the game based on the box, fantasies.

Example 2: In 1987 Sid Meier develops Pirates. Microprose gets brought up by Hasbro who is eventually eatten into Atari. However, here's the difference between a company like Atari and VU. Atari let Sid Meier create the remake of Pirates. They used his input. They listened to what the fans wanted. Thus they developed a great selling remake of a classic. Another point here, there have been countless clones the most recent Tradewinds 2, Both Atari and Sid didn't stop them. Didn't even complain that it was borderline Pirates. This folks is an example of a company in my opinion with class.

All I can suggest here is that perhaps the creators of KQIX which looked to be extremely promising can contact Roberta Williams. Let's just say contacting Roberta in the past regarding to Kings Quest has led to a very positive result. Contacting other original authors about their sierra games has also garnished the same result. At the very least she may be able to help you. I'm sure she would be overcome with joy at seeing fans create a new adventure based on her masterpieces. I know if I made a well known game that was enjoyed by many and 10-20 years down the line I saw a group of talented people continuing the saga with their own tale, I would be honored.

In short, never give up, I hope we get to see KQIX some day. I will continue my boycott on VU (this just helps strengthen it.) Good luck on your future endeavors.

Don't take it too personally if the moderators at Vivendi's forums are locking and/or deleting your threads.  They have a rule about fan-games not being allowed to be discussed there, so they're just trying to enforce that rule.

That's a nice one. Even if they didn't invent that rule just now, the discussion is not about fan games. It is about the way Vivendi is dealing with fan games.

So, how many of you have bought the compilations? I know I didn't.

Louisiana Night

If you want to talk about that, go to this thread.

TheWalrus2000

I am a fan of the Kings Quest series. The orginal Kings Quest was the first PC game I ever played, heck it was the reason I bought my first computer in the first place (which was an IBM PC JR). I am extremely disappointed about the recent developements. I must admit that I was absolutly shocked when I saw that the site and game were shut down.
I think Vivendi had no right to let the project come so far just to use there power to bring it to an end. I have a great idea for Vivendi, they should buy the KQIX game from you guys for a small amount of money and the sell the game retail. They make lots of money and do no work, what more could they ask for; INSTANT PROFIT!!!
Well needless to say I am extremely sad for you guys as well as everyone that was waiting for so long to see and play the game. But most of all I am said for Vivendi because I feel they have become the enemy and killed peoples hopes and expectations!

I just had to delete a message encouraging illegal activity, and may I say to you all that that is not the purpose of this thread. All messages condoning/encouraging any form of illegal activity will be removed without warning.

I will not buy the compilation ever! I am boycotting Vivendi! Plus I believe that they released the compilation on the interest that was sparked by your making of KQIX. And they will probably sell more of the comilations because of the interest that was created by you guys!

I'm going to make a suggestion here.  I'm not plugging this site, but when Star Trek: Enterprise was cancelled fans rallied at www.trekunited.com to come together as a collective force to petition Paramount for another season of the show.  Now, admitedly there is still no season 5 of the show, BUT they have had a number of great ideas for petitioning Paramount, things like postcard petitions, mailing campaigns, etc...

It might be worth while to speak with someone from that site to see what they've done and gather input from them from their efforts to see how fans of KQ9 could effectively petition VU in a grass roots movement.

Just a suggestion.

PhoenixPhan19

hey guys,
i just found out about this project earlier, and as much pain as i feel finding out about this development at the same time i found out about kqix itself, i can't imagine it compares to what the rest of you are going through, having watched this game in progress for four years.    :'(  i really admire the team for everything they put into this game - it looks great, no wonder the williams liked it!  even if "the evil one" (we do not speak its name!) doesn't back off, it's still a real thrill to find and join with so many other kq fans, and i really appreciate you guys giving us something way more than just a game - a chance to find other fans, still out there, and eagerly await another amazing, real kq game, another game that would really suck us back into daventry, together.

i also want to suggest to the other hundreds of fans visiting this site that we back off on just "throwing ideas" around the forum (especially the illegal ones  :) ).  i actually managed to read all 38 pages of posts (whew!) and it's been said literally dozens of times that PO is looking into their options.  that's really all that they should have to say to us to satisfy us.  don't forget, as disappointing as this is to US, it's waaaay worse for THEM, who put in who knows how many hours.  as at least one person said pages back, it's been exhausting, and they really deserve to decide how hard to fight, how far to take this, without having to worry about us getting on their backs about doing more.  just limit yourselves to telling them how great their work is, how much we appreciate it, and how much we support them (no matter what course of action they take), and also send an email to them (vivendi) reiterating our support for kqix (and, ahem, hint at lost business for the collections coming out if they don't shape up  ;) ).  let the team members do their jobs, and let us, the fans, do ours.

yep...i'm actually done now.  and oh yea, forgive the goofy id name, i felt like being weird  ;D

PhoenixPhan19

oops i do have a couple more suggestions for fellow fans:

i actually forget, what are we doing right now in the way of petitions?
if we've got one going, throw your name on that.

i also think it's a great idea to spread the word around to other gaming-related forums and such...like, i'm planning on writing a letter to my all-time favorite mag, PCGamer, as soon as i'm done here (and done taking out the trash  ;) ).

yup, that's all for now lol
