I don't mean to be negative but check this post out: http://forums.vugames.com/thread.jspa?threadID=6647&tstart=0 in the middle this paragraph comes up:

Vivendi representatives recently explained they chose to shut down the fan project of KQIX now because they just learned of it. Had they known about it several years ago when it began production, it probably would have been shut down at that point.

Didn't they learn of it years ago? They deleted all the other posts that have anysthing to do with KQIX  :'(

My 2nd email to vivendi:

Why? Why did you have to do this? What did they ever do to you? Do you even know what people said about this project?

I am very flattered by the Project…. I’m cheering from the sidelines.” â€" Roberta Williams
“Congratulations to the team! The graphics look awesome! … were I still running Sierra I would probably be trying to find a way to sign up the project” â€" Ken Williams

“The most promising fan-made continuation of the King’s Quest series to date” â€" Game Informer

“The outcome is totally impressive and brings commercial companies in shame and embarrassment” - The Inventory

“One of the first and best looking fan games/freeware adventure games in the history of the internet” â€" Fanventures

No offense, but I don't buy that explanation.  I mean if it were true, when they learned of AGDI why did they decide not to shut them down?

Hello, I know earlier there was some talk about boycotting Vivendi Universal so I did a little looking around. Boycotting Vivendi Universal would be very, very hard since they own so so so many bussinesses.
...thats allot. And that means they have aLOT of profit and that mean that had KQIX effected their sales negativly it wouldn't have really mattered. (Hides in a hole and cries over how much Vivendi controls)

ow...good catch coaster.  yea, a boycott doesn't really work anymore, cuz even if every kq fan boycotted them entirely (and that itself is impractical based on the list), we'd form only a tiny percent of all their consumers...even in computer games, since they have blizzard and thus WoW.

this is really depressing... :-[  i guess our best option is to keep spreading the word to gaming outlets, gaming magazines, websites, etc.  a lot of bad publicity for vivendi is the only real option we have, it seems, to hit them hard in all their business areas.

If they're so wealthy then why can't they just leave KQIX alone?  :'(
I know, I'm being kind of naive, but greed really repulses me.

Why should I take offense to it? It doesn't really bother me, just seems wierd that now they have the need to explain why they did it now and not four years ago. Didn't the KQIX team have a contract with them or something of the like?

I thought that they just sent something to them stating their bussiness and when they didn't reply the team thought of it as a go ahead we don't care enough to respond

I just heard about it today! I'm so disapointed, I could cry! I was really looking forward to playing the game in winter. I hope somehow you are able to salvage your work and make an original game that will knock the socks off of Vivendi. Bah! They are evil I swear! And just plain mean. Why do they have tod isapoint so many king's quest fans everywhere? I'm ready to join the Save KQIX bandwagon. What can I do to help?

Also, I have some ideas for original games, but maybe I should keep them to myself.

Guys, great news!!!  I just heard today (someone confirm this please) that VU can't actually make you stop, unless they're releasing a game of the same name.  If this is the case, you can change the title.  Or, you can change the company name and head of the company (I know, drastic.)  Or, apparantley, you can just say "Forget you, VU!" and entirely ignore the C/D (not a good ending to this adventure. XD)  Hope that helps in our struggle.  Oh, and one last thing, I'm going to sign the petition soon.  I don't know if I can scan or take a picture of it...

PS: That trailer was freaking awesome!!!

Haha, sorry, I was saying that in general. :P

And yeah, there wasn't any contract.  I believe the founders may have contacted Vivendi (or whoever owned Sierra back then) about it, but they didn't really say yes or no.  It was different management than today anyway.

I just heard today too...and promptly went and wrote this over there at the VU Community Forums: http://forums.vugames.com/thread.jspa?threadID=6740.  Revise it, forward it along, whatever you like if you can get any use out of it...I mean every word.

QuoteTo whom it may concern:

Re: http://www.tsl-game.com/

I was horrified to learn tonight that greed had once again won over principal in Sierra/Vivendi Universal, this time in regards to the freeze order this company has placed upon the kind-hearted KQ fans of Phoenix Online Studios that have been working dilligently for years on a fan fiction sequel called KQIX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining.

These diehard KQ fans have been working very hard to produce what your company does not believe profitable: a continuation of the story of the characters we have all grown to know and love from Roberta Williams' original KQ series.  It was to be freeware--no profit would be made off of the name and trademarks you somehow treasure for the monetary value despite your complete abandonment of the series.  It hardly seems a coincidence that this threat comes in tandum with your re-release of KQ on Amazon.com.

Please, I'm asking you on behalf of so many KQ fans that are great in number though apparently not great enough to turn a profit that's worth anything to your capitalist organization: please do not force Phoenix Online Studios to abadon the game we've all waited so long to experience.

You are probably right in abandoning KQ if your reasoning is entirely financially motivated; there probably isn't enough market demand for "old school" adventure games such as KQ anymore--these precious tales are not bloody enough, or flashy enough, or loud enough to turn a great profit in our current environment of modern shock culture.

But if this is the case, then why not allow KQIX to be released, for those of us who do still share a passion for the legacy started by Roberta Williams so many years ago?  They will make no money off of its production, and the great interest their project has generated could very well lead to an influx of interest from brand-new adventure fans first exposed to KQ through KQIX, who will want to check out the series from the beginning through your products on Amazon.com.  Is this not enough?  Can't you at least try to work something out with the fans (of your games!) who have worked so hard to keep the spirit of KQ alive, so that KQIX, nearly finished, may some day be shared?

Please do not deal the final blow against the world of King's Quest and the fans that have very loyally followed the adventure for so many long years now.  The heartlessness with which these games are treated after they have served their economic purpose only encourages myself and others to share the utter lack of caring Vivendi has for the fans of its games...and we certainly don't want to open up our pocketbooks to a company and continue buying games from another series that you will one day kill when the dollar signs have run their course.

We, the fans of King's Quest and other adventure games like it, feel this way because of the innovative spirit of Sierra and emplyees therein that created such wondrous worlds for us to traverse.  The men and women at Phoenix Online Studios have created this unofficial sequel because of that inspiration your games instilled in their hearts.  We, the fans of Daventry and Tamir and the Green Isles, ask you to please re-consider your freeze order on POS and allow them to release KQIX in some way or another, for some price or another.

I'm sure the adventure gaming population of the world would appreciate it greatly if the corporate cloak could be lifted just this once, for this series that we love so much.  I know I would.

With much sincere thought,

Very blunt and honest. Thank you, PopeHope for your passion.

I wonder, though, what VU's intention was. I greatly doubt they'll ever try to release a new King's Quest game, so why did they bother? KQIX poses no real threat to them. Why even make the effort to freeze production?

...Any speculations?

I don't debate, I ramble with STYLE!

koko_99_2001

No idea...it'd be nice if they came out with a KQIX, but I'm not sure I'd trust them. That, and the fans have been waiting so long for this one that this is the storyline they're anticipating.
