DRB,

As a matter of fact, I do know that's why I say soon, but it's not up to ME to say just yet, so, I just don't appreciate saying things and have everyone breathing on my neck about it, otherwise I just wouldn't have even bothered to reply. He just made quite the right comment on a great moment. I do appreciate my time you know! :)

AND, I'm a SHE, btw ;P

Dark-daventry,
Thanks! lol, I can't wait to see that video! lol :)

soon is soon???

No need to be sarcastic.  That takes me back to my childhood days. my parents were famous for answers like "soon" and "we'll see".

I’m sure nobody expects definite dates.  Something like “in a couple of weeks” or “by the end of the year” would have been helpful.  Like you said, if Say had information, he would have said so.  But he doesn’t, so he says soon.

Soon does not mean soon.  It means I don’t have a clue and I’m tired of being asked the question.   :)

First off, Alex was not being sarcastic. He was stating the truth. Secondly, Say does have information. However, neither she nor anyone else on the team can share it. They've said that before. They are not completely in the dark. They probably don't have definite dates, but they do have some information. What is that information? I don't know. But don't get upset with the team when they don't share everything they know.

First off, I was joking  -- in part.  Soon is soon is a bit sarcastic, but I certainly didn’t think Alex was trying to be sarcastic.

Secondly, what I posted was the truth.

Thirdly, you didn’t read or at least didn’t understand what I was talking about.  Of course Say has information.  But I was talking about information on when he can reveal that information.  Again reread my post.

Forth - I am not upset with Alex or the team.  Didn’t you see the smiley face at the end of my post?  Only your misunderstanding of my post led you to believe so.  Of course they can’t share information.  Nobody expects them to share it.  Nobody expects exact dates. So whom are you arguing with?

I’m going to flash the smiley face once again to show I’m not upset.
:)
OK, maybe I was a little sarcastic.  So here it is again :)

It is really a sad thing to see how much $ nowadays affects the gaming business. I have worked several years for a non-us dependence of a major publisher which I dont want to name here. I hope I can share some of my experiences and help the community somewhat ( if not somebody else did post the same already since I have just read 10 of 62 pages ;) ).

....

And from chatting with people who work at VUG I know that even there are emplyees who are deeply sad about the step because there are fans of KQ. Unfortunately the people at VUG I know are either in a position not high enough to actually change or influence something or would not care about what i have to say, but I hope the informations I posted will help some.

Key is to get to the right people. They will listen if the press is supporting you.

Oops ... but you named it....(Careful now.)

Anyhow, good to know your heart is in the right place... albeit a very cynical and bitter view of the industry. (I'm not too fond of VU myself)

Many other studios encourage developers (and dare I say Marketing staff) to communicate with the fanbase through forums about an upcoming project. I could point you to one where VU is involved with a company contracted to make a sequel to an existing series/family of games. Marketing people from VU have been spotted in the wild and, when confronted, admitted such activity. As to the developers... almost everyone is subtly trying to influence their decisions on direction, style and the finest nuances of the game. Strangely enough the Dev team replys numerous times daily on the forums and consults the fan base(or simply says no it won't happen the way a fan wants it to)

At a different company/group of companies a few years back (~3 - dev company absorbed at that point and dev's scattered to other places)  the decision makers were well known to frequent the forums to guage fanbase support and enthusiasm for sequels, watch development upclose (dev's hate this level of involvement) and strangely enough they pushed the games development towards the loudest and most eloquently pursuasive faction on the forums. (screaming ten year olds were ignored and banned)

Some of you will figure out who I'm refering to.

<<and NO I do not work in any way shape or form for Vivendi Universal or its affiliates>>

Hello! It's been several weeks that I have not posted here because of a thesis I have to present in the University. I'm glad that Say has told that there is still hope fo KQIX.

I was figuring that  just in case Vivendi is already working on an official KQIX game, there  might be  a  possible alternative. All famous toylines like "Transformers" and movies' novelizations like "Star Wars" have their own expanded universe. It would be nice that if there were an agreement with Vivendi, they might let Phoenix launch "Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining" as a kind of King's Quest Expanded Universe game, either for free or for sale  (with Vivendi's trademark of course to avoid any IP conflict)

This might sound farfetch; but it's not bad to dream.

From a fans point of view:

If all remains honourable ... The Every Cloak has a Silver Trilogy should remain free... or an option to donate to the celebration fund of Phoenix Online. <<Beer Bash Bucket 'O Coinage>>

Vivendi is welcome to extend the series and I would very likely buy their product... as well as Quest for Glory((Hero's Quest)) continuations.

Its just after the insult of Vivendi shutting the project down... Well, I'd find it more than a bit insulting if Vivendi tried to steal the work of a fanbase project and sell it for their own gain... It would come across as the greedy little Frenchman in the Tower in a Monty Python movie... the one with the o'rrible accent .. you know.
<<Monty Python's Holy Grail for those who don't>>

And If anyone wishes me to curse at VU in French ... perfectly capable of throwing that speach pattern around as well....<some of the terminology is a bit .. to severely.. dated ... but it works just fine.>>

More to the point .. I hope Vivendi Universal has come ... finally... to their senses. Should they view this as a revolution that will raise awareness of the Intellectual Property that they have the priviledge to hold and have the opportunity to license/grant to worthy developers for fanbase projects or for profit releases, they can only come out smelling like roses. All the past adventure packs will have a revival and new adventures will be kept fresh and strong by a competition between fanbase versus studio projects.

As a 3D animator myself... I'd love to try to out-do Phoenix's KQIX/Every Cloak game. Especially, if Vivendi was paying me to try to outperform something that was simply magical from the trailer. A good enough team of professionals <<Absolutely no offense intended to Phoenix Online>> should have the resources to outdo you folks on the graphical level. But, as to the love of the concept and the story... It takes one of US (those who can almost recite the spells on KQ3 To Heir is Human <<have my two original white 3.5" floppy's here as i type>>) <<Should see if they still work some time - I even have the manual/hard to read spellbook packed away>> to truly script the adventure in the right way. Of course, we should all bow down to Roberta and Ken Williams.

I love what you folks are doing and pray it works out to all our betterment.

Please contact us all on the Forum, Front page of site and especially by email through the Forum signup list if the game becomes available here or on the new site http://www.postudios.com/

I promise to spread the word far and wide Loud and Fast. <<I'll even write some fluff up about Vivendi Universal's 'generosity' by allowing this project to continue.>>

Grinning and grinding my teeth simultaneously.

I think I have to get dressed up in my good old Santa costume and have a little talk with VU about their actions. They should spread the holiday cheer, not waste it on themselves! I think VU will definetly realize their actions and consider a release of this game, as long as St. Nick still has some persusaion* powers... (goes into attic and pulls out ripped undersized santa costume and pulls it on. Gets stuck... starts muttering...)

*Did I spell persusaion right? Oh, and... HAVE A VERY EARLY MERRY CHRISTMAS POS, AND THE COMMUNITY... AND SAY TOO...

By the way, I like the poem, awesomeasapossum!!

I liked that poem too, lol... and I'm also looking forward to watch that video, dark-daventry! :P

On further news.... savekqix is becoming also, let's say AS popular or close enough as KQIX itself, let me tell you we handle about 7,000,000 + hits monthly with this portal, and we obviously come first when you research online "KQIX" but they come close within the top 10!, now, who said the adventure community was dead? :P Not to mention you can find this news all over the net, everywhere everyone's got something to say about this, there are some threads and tons of comments at IGDA forums, too.

They even have a lot of attention at other places, such as myspace
http://www.myspace.com/savekqix

Check it out, last week when I checked had 570-something, now it's all the way up to 633 friends registered.

Anyhow, I thought it was an interesting thing to check out for all those who have read all the 60whatever pages of this thread so far :)

Yeah...I think we had close to 10,000 hits on our website in just the three or so weeks we've been up :) Pretty cool.

EDIT: I just checked on Google and SaveKQIX is the second site that come up, right behind KQIX.

Cool... There's a Myspace SaveKQIX? Wow... I'm really out of the loop... Oh, and ah, Say, the video got, uh... Um... (looks for useless excuse) Stolen by... Uh... a... uh... an evil... uh... Mordack... Yes, that's it, it got stolen by Mordack....! :P And I tried to get it back, but that Genie that gets drunk from mints stole it from Mordack. And then Hagatha stole it from him, and then... Uh... Felisha stole it from her... and uh... (looks around in King's Quest book for another excuse)... And the druids took the video from Felisha and burned it because they thought it was an intruder to the island... Would you believe that if I told you it happened... And I was in Etheria the whole time doing my agonizing math Homework... I swear this really happened...!  ;D I'm an honest teenager, really... :sweating: Would I ever decieve you, Say...? :sneaky:

Has anybody received a reply from VU. I just did today. I sent a letter a few weeks back explaining why they should let KQIX be released. I didn't figure on hearing anything from them. Here is what they wrote. "Thanks for sending us your feedback regarding the Kings Quest project that was shut down. I will take your comment into consideration for future reference. At this time we do not have enough inquiries from the public at large for us to reconsider this decision to open the project."
Daniel Oksun
Vivendi Universal Games

Maybe everyone here better write a snail mail letter and tell them what you think.  I They probably ignore all the emails about it. I just wanted to know if anyone else has got anything from them.

Flubly

You know what that means: spread the news harder.  That petition needs a LOT of signatures.

koko_99_2001

I am writing to Mr. Oksun right now to let him know about the petitions that I sent. Maybe he personally didn't receive them... :-\
