Having to write down stuff in games nowadays would never fly. They have to put compass directions, map labels, quest logs, etc on everything or nobody would play it. Or at least, not enough people.

But a lot of what you say is exactly why fans seem to prefer Morrowind over Oblivion. Nothing is a repetition, nothing scales with your level, the dungeons don't have random enemies or items, and every single quest was planned, penned, and executed without any random generation. What I don't like about Morrowind is the dice-roll combat system (you can be firing an arrow directly at an enemy, or swing and hit an enemy but if the dice-roll doesn't lie in your favour depending on your stats, you will miss), you can't recover arrows, the fact that magic never recovers automatically, and the Cliff Racers.

You forgot the atrociously bad draw distances.  ;)

oh, man, yes, the leveling up system was another one of those things. I had to actually stop leveling up and lower the difficulty cause I was spending like 5 mins to kill any monster. Then I went online and read how broken the leveling system was, and so I stopped leveling.

Also, I reached a point in the game, about 40% in, where looting had no more meaning whatsoever, which took away one of the mechanics of what makes an rpg.

I started playing Morrowind a while back and I was enjoying it, but then I never got further than 5 hours playing it or so.

My fav RPG in recent memory was Demons' Souls. Now that was a game that I enjoyed immensely from beginning to end. One of the things I've always favored Japanese style RPG is the concept of great bosses, and Demons' Souls was very fresh because it was westernized, but keeping japanese elements in like. It was sort of a Diablo with great boss battles.

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul goes a long way to making up for the deficiencies of Oblivion's levelling system. If you can find it, it might be worth giving that a go.

So I've heard.  Alas, not gonna happen on my 360.  ;)

Looking at the screenshots all I can say is:

I want it.
NOW.

It's a shame about not being able to have it right now. :( It probably won't even run on my comp.

That is such a nice version of the Morrowind theme...

How did I not know, they were coming out with a new game? I love this game. Sometimes I go walking around and just to look at the scenery. :)

I need some new pants after watching that trailer. That was, like, amazing.

Agreed.  That settles it.  I'm so getting a new computer to play this.

You know what would be cool?  A cake decorated like the Imperial City.  If I get married and gather enough money, I'd make that my wedding cake.
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Aww!  You have the Sword of Hugging +3!  All of your attacks deal affectionate damage!

Lambonius

Awesome.  I hope to god the 360 can handle it without any technical hiccups.

The PC is going to be the better platform. Which is most likely the system I'll be buying it for.

Oh, I'm sure it will be.  However, I neither own, nor will own, a strong enough PC gaming rig for such a thing by this November.  So I'll have to settle down for slightly blurrier textures and maybe a reduced draw distance or two.  Hopefully the differences won't be too noticeable.

I'm very excited for this game. The trailer made the game look gorgeous.

Lambonius

Just found out that the trailer was recorded from the 360 version.  This makes me VERY happy.
