Which reminds me... didn't he swim a ridiculously long distance in KQ3 or am I mixing my Sierra games? If he did... where the hell did he learn to swim? I can't imagine Manannan taking him for long walks on the beach

He swims ashore from the Pirate ship, but it's only a screen or two if you play it correctly and wait til "land ho" before casting the sleep spell. 

You don't have to swim that one either.  You can't turn into an eagle and fly.  That way trhe shark can't get you.
