Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock Is Now Available for Mobile Platforms!
by Katie Hallahan on Nov.05, 2015, under featured, Morningstar
Phoenix Online Publishing and Red Herring Labs today announced that the developer’s atmospheric sci-fi adventure, Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock, has been released for mobile platforms on iOS and Android today. Crash-landing on the isolated alien landscape of Deadrock, a planet that appears deceptively empty and benign, Powell’s dangerous mission of exploration and survival begins as he seeks to repair his ship and escape the planet’s destructive gravity well. The game can be found in the Apple iTunes Store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/morningstar-descent-to-deadrock/id998943480?mt=8) and the Google Play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.postudios.msdd) for just $3.99. The game is also available for PC & Mac on the Phoenix Online Store (store.postudios.com), Steam, and other online retailers. Check out the new trailer here: https://youtu.be/QWafNS0zdUE
Crash-landed on a desolate, alien planet, gamers will discover that what should have been a routine work-for-hire job for Powell has become a deadly mission to save the merchant vessel Morningstar and her crew. With one man dead and the captain gravely injured, Powell is on his own to repair the ship and find a way to escape the strange gravity well of the empty planet they’ve landed on. If the situation weren’t dire enough, the only signs of life on the planet are the remains of a much larger and better equipped ship and her crew, all dead, and not by natural means. What—or who—brought down these ships and is killing their crews? Why? And can Powell find a way off-planet before he shares the same fate?
Key Features
- Experience the remastered immersive sci-fi adventure, packed with gorgeous HD graphics, detailed puzzles and scenes, and an all-new, streamlined interface for mobile platforms
- Explore haunting landscapes and gorgeous cinematics, all in beautiful high definition
- Uncover the mystery of Deadrock through intriguing puzzles and gripping storyline
- The alien planet of Deadrock comes alive with full voice acting and engrossing sound effects

Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock is an indie atmospheric adventure game developed by Red Herring Labs. Players take control of Powell, a space trader who crashlands on the Desert planet of ‘Deadrock’ and must now navigate through the wrecks of two starships and the aforementioned planet hoping to find a way to escape.
However, even the most veteran space explorers may need a little help now and again. For that reason we created the Official Morningstar Walkthrough. (continue reading…)

Art and music generally go hand-in-hand when trying to evoke certain feelings and moods in the player’s subconscious and Morningstar is no exception. Paradoxically, while the planet of Deadrock is devoid of all life the sights and sounds are anything but dead. Both help to enhance the feeling of being alone on a barren hunk of rock floating around in an infinite cosmos. (continue reading…)
Morningstar: Alone In The Universe

Morningstar is what is known as an “escape game”. What this means is that you are trapped somewhere and your primary goal is to find a way to escape your current situation. In this case you’re stranded on a deserted planet with no means of getting off it from the start. That’s the catalyst for exploring your surroundings and figuring out what to do to get the ship back up and running. Otherwise there wouldn’t be much of a story. What you do find out while wandering around, though, add significantly to the plot. (continue reading…)
Morningstar: Something Old, Something New
by stika on Feb.11, 2015, under featured, Morningstar
Morningstar was originally released as a Flash game in May 2009 on Newgrounds and Kongregate. While a lot has remained the same, in particular the story and most of the locations, just as much has changed between then and the upcoming updated release. We’ll be taking a look at these differences here. (continue reading…)
Morningstar: Exploring Deadrock
by stika on Feb.10, 2015, under featured, Morningstar
Morningstar uses a first-person interface, meaning that the entire game is seen through the eyes of our protagonist Powell. More precisely, it’s seen through the visor of his suit’s helmet display system. As such, you never see what he looks like and you’re only able to tell that he’s male by the voice-over. Without it, Powell could be either gender. It would be hard to figure this out otherwise even if it was in a third-person viewpoint as the visor is darkened from the outside as shown in Captain Novak’s sprite sitting in the ship’s cockpit.
